Have a 9ct gold precision from 1965 in a coin edge case but back is stamped DS&S and it dates to 1965 London. Not had any with this case so is it genuine?as all the ones Ihave had have been Rolex or ALD.Regards Trevor.

Yes, DS&S (D Shackman and Sons) did make cases for Rolex. The watches were cased-up at Rolex, Bexley. I started working for Rolex in the casing up department until they had room for me in the servicing workshop. I cased up hundreds of Rolex and Tudor movements, all of them in gold cases. I remember a ladies gold/diamond/sapphire piece that was destined for an up and coming singer Cilla Black (not many in the department had heard of her at the time!) Yes agree DS&S made gold cases for many of the high brands over several decades.

Hi - I'm just bringing up an old thread. What is the perception of these DS&S cased Rolexes? They would not have been a globally distributed product, so how does that affect their overall desirability?

I ask as I am looking to buy a vintage Rolex as a special gift, and a DS&S cased watch has come my way. I'm not sure how to gauge it (other than it is beautiful!) and I also have the option of a 'regular' mainstream Rolex model of the same vintage which is equally nice.

Most all period DS&S cased Rolex were mainly sold in England, Europe, and commonwealth all perfectly normal and will not effect value on any way..
