Rolex Oyster refreshment

Hello everyone,

I prefer to warn right now I'm a pure newbie in watches but you will see for yourself I think and i'm french with a poor english ...

I found a watch belonging to my grandfather, in dirty condition, it has not been used for at least 58 years, I did some research without finding the exact model, but i found exactly the same model under the "Oyster" brand instead of mine which is "Rolex". The one i found is an Oyster Junior Sport from the 30s, so mine is from the same period.

I tried to remount it manually and suprise it still works :) !!

I want to refresh it a little bit, and i think the hard part will be to find the same Plexiglas, because because it doesn't seem recoverable..

I think it's a cal. 59 (same as FHF30).

I found some charasteristics of her Oyster sister, i think it's the same (HERE) :

Rolex men's wristwatch, Oyser Junior Sport model.
Period: late 1930s
Hand-wound mechanical movement with 16 jewels, and seconds sub-dial at 6 o'clock.
Steel casing diameter: 30.5 mm
Silver-coloured dial with patina, Arabic numerals and hands painted with Super-LumiNova.
Crystal: Plexiglas.
Screw-in caseback with external etching, ref. 3136

That looks like a nice vintage Rolex. Find a good watchmaker to service the movement, replace the crystal, clean the case in an ultrasonic bath and check that the crown and crown tube are functioning properly. It needs new hands and it looks as if the dial has had some not very good repainting.

That should not be too expensive and you will have a nice wearable heirloom. Of course, don't have any more restoration work done to the dial.

Thanks for your advice, it's exactly what i will do.

I don't think that the dial has been repainted, if you look at the Oyster Junior Sport that i found on a biding website, the dial is also painted like this..

Great if it would not be so expensive :)

I see in a closer look that you are correct about the repainting. Perhaps someone here can give you a recommendation for a watchmaker in France to help you.

I recently found a Tudor that also looks quite similar.
