The special watches only you appreciate....?
We wear out watches for our pleasure....and some are special as they are appreciated more so because outwardly they look simply "Rolex", but have that special spice only we know of....
In my collection it's the SD and DSSD as head on they look like a regular sub, or maybe it's my 1968 vintage birth year GMT..... What's your special wrist secret and why? |

I have two - an Omega 2254.50 which was the first "nice" watch I purchased and a recently acquired Rolex 16800 from my birth year.

This is my special one:
It's a 18K RG Omega "bumper" automatic from 1950. I wore it at my ordination as a deacon and then to the priesthood. It was also on my wrist when I officiated at the marriage of my oldest daughter. |

The Nivada Depthomatic (on the right) was given to me when I was 13 by my father. It was part of his watch collection and I always liked it and when I turned 13 he let me have it. I've kept it ever since. About 5 years ago I had it serviced by a local watchmaker who was, surprisingly, able to find a part that was needed in order to fix the date mechanism.
The outer bezel and the rubber hose around it is used to measure depth by moving an air bubble. Quite an ingenious mechanism, simple but it works. I always have it on my winder box, and keeps extremely good time, well within COSC specs even after being almost 50 years old. A very unique and iconic watch, which was way too large for its time, but now is just right, and the best part of all is the meaning it has for me. This was the start of my watch collection and my love for watches. |

I have a couple now - I even post 'em here to very little response. My very rare Citizen AJ0080-08E and my even more rare Doxa silver Sharkhunter...
It's one thing if non-watch collectors don't recognize the specialness of your watch. But if WISes haven't seen in it, you're really flying under the radar...

I have no pics of the one that only I appreciate. It's nothing fancy. It's an old Seiko alarm quartz that my parents got for me in 1989 when I was in high school. I told myself that I'd replace it someday with a Rolex. I wore it everyday for 20+ years until the crown fell out. I bought my GMT, and another Seiko as a beater, while the quartz was getting repaired. I still wear it occasionally but since I fell in love with watches in general when I was searching for it's replacement, I now have too many other choices. :)

There is three pieces in my "collection" that I treat like a baby. They have reasons.
1. Lanco Dress Watch - My grandfather's watch, I wear it whenever I need to dress up. Shirts, suits whatever. 2. Vintage Seiko 6139 8049T Chronograph - Another one of my grandfather's pieces. He left them to me, after he passed. This is a very beautiful vintage piece from Seiko. It means a lot to wear my grandfather's watches. I usually wear this guy all weekend after work. 3. My father's TAG S/EL from 1991. - Very special watch to me. This watch was always on my father's wrist from 1991 - 2010. He bought a TW Steel in 2010, he got rid of the TW Steel and I found him a great deal on his dream piece. A TT GMT-II (16713) He gifted the TAG to me for my 16th birthday. None of these timepieces are expensive, but that honestly doesn't mean a $**t to me. I cherish them very much!
