Vintage Rolex Serials Numbers for 1982 production

Hello,

I am getting mixed reports as to the serial numbers for Rolex's made in 1982.

Most tables I have seen say serial numbers 7,386,000 - 7,862,000 are for Rolex's made in 1982.

I am looking at purchasing a Submariner from 1982 and the seller is saying that serial numbers 7,220,000 - 7620,000 are the serial numbers for Rolex's made in 1982.

The watch in question is a 7,24X,XXX.... So I'm just wondering if it is actually a 1982 watch or is it a 1981.

Thank you in advance,

Josh

I'd say circa 1982, but all the sources are guides only - not definitive.

Have you checked the Rolex Serial Numbers Project here? http://vintagerolexforum.com/
That's the most detailed.

Thats what confuses me @Old Expat Beast.
Because that table says that a 7,2XX,XXX serial number is from 1981 (not 1982)

So I'd still love some clarification because it's a little confusing and contradicting.

Thanks,

Josh

There are many variables. I wouldn't be concerned at all over a few months or even a year's difference between similarly serialed watches.

Have you considered looking for a full set, or at least a watch with original 1982 warranty papers?
