In honor of my 1680th post...
Hi friends,
I've not been quite as frequent in the vintage forum over the past 2 years after I went on a "one watch" mission that happened to center on a modern Sub. I've had a major itch to get back into vintage and so I figured it would be very appropriate to memorialize my favorite all-time Rolex with post #1680. I have owned several 1680s over the years, and they've just slipped away from me because other forum members have made me offers I cannot refuse! I'll give you a bit of history. My very first 1680 had the service Luminova Red dial installed and it was quite a rare find! So rare, that fellow forum member Jason71 made me an insane offer and I ultimately let it go within about a year of owning it. I still miss it, but very happy it is in good hands. My next 1680 was a beautiful one with a bit of a patina on the dial and hands. It was a non-cyclops model and it was lovely. I do not remember who got this one specifically, but I had a bunch of people nagging me about it all the time. During the time I had the prior 1680, I picked up this absolute gem of an NOS type 1680. It had the most snow white dial and well-defined lugs I've ever seen in person or in pictures. It was outstanding. My friend Harold kept texting me daily and making me insane offers on this and he caught me on a weak day. I still regret the day I let this one get away. I actually had the pair together for nearly a year. So where exactly is this thread heading, you might ask? The 1680 haunts my dreams and I've been craving one ever since I let the last one go a few years ago. I keep looking at the FS forums and alas, the ones I want are so much more expensive than the ones I previously owned. This past week, I did close a deal with Jacek and have a nice 1680 incoming in the next day or two. It is not a rare grail or red Sub, even though I would have loved to make that happen (maybe one day). This one is just an honest white 1680 that has many of the attributes I loved so much about my last 1680. I'll post some pics once I have it on my wrist. For now, I must sit back and savor my 1680th post! Thanks for reading! |

Here is the latest 1680, to commemorate my post #1681. I am thinking my next vintage acquisition needs to include red.
