Appraisal, Insurance, and servicing Serial 1,7x 1968 GMT

I’ve been looking for a while and found a 1675 serial 1,7x. Everything looks good online to my eye, and pics match references I’ve seen for series, but I won’t have it in my hands for a few more days. (GMTMaster1675) Mark1 dial.

The dial/hands looks accurate and lume demonstrates patina I’d expect.

No bracelet.

I’d appreciate your thoughts and recommendations on:

1. Ensure it is authentic and not a conglomeration of parts.
2. Appraisal for Insurance.
3. Adding it to a home/personal policy or do you recommend watch specific insurance?
4. Servicing when necessary. I don’t want RSC changing everything out giving me new hands, dial etc. What do you recommend for 50+ year old Rolex service?

I’m in Indianapolis area.

Also, recommendations on sourcing a bracelet.

GMTMaster1675 has me a little confused as to which bracelet would be appropriate for this watch.

C&I or solid rivet 7206? Or 6636… the site kind of says any would be legit.

If given a legit option, I’d rather have a Jubilee.

Post pics of the watch in question and the experts here will tell you how original it is. Take good large pics of the dial, the sides, the back. Make sure text is visible. If you can open the case, take pics of the movement and inside the case back. Since it's a 1.7M serial it should have a date stamp inside on the case back indicating the year of production and quarter. Take pics of the serial number, just the first 4 or so and obscure the rest. Use a vintage specialist (CW21 Certified) to service the watch. Mine is from 1973 and I used Phillip Ridley, there is also Bob Ridley, his father and a few others you can look for on this forum.

Bracelet
7206 - Oyster Rivet Bracelet 58 or 80 end links
7836 - Oyster folded-link bracelet, 280end links
6251H - Jubilee Bracelet 550 end links
Or go with an American made C & I oyster bracelet
Or American made Oval link Jubilee bracelet
I personally like the oval link bracelet more than a Swiss version folded link

All of the above would be period correct (I think…)
The other option is to get a newer version 62510H jubilee or 78360 oyster, which will look very similar but will be more robust. Rolex will also sell you one after the watch is serviced. I'm pretty sure if you brought it in and it was not keeping good time they would insist on servicing before selling you anything. You can also find them on EBAY but there are definitely counterfeits and franken bracelets out there too.

Post pics! Good Luck!

I was finally able to get some pics. I am unable to remove case back, even with ball. I have a Rolex case back tool on the way should be here this weekend.

Phillip Ridley a CW 21 watchmaker in Arizona. He’s fantastic and responsive. Has a Rolex NOS vintage inventory of parts. I think he owns a 1675 GMT among other Rolex vintage.

CTech on your other post gave a nice analysis. The 11:00 lug does look polished down in the distant past. And those spring bars… Too small, and yes your AD or even some other shop should have them 20mm length 2mm width, I think. Like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/174706754094 Based on Larry/Tools serial number list date range seems appropriate for a fuchsia bezel insert. Does the bezel ring rotate freely? I second RFC's recommendation. BTW, Phillip also provided an appraisal after he serviced the watch.

The bezel rotates, but I wouldn’t say ‘freely’ it seems tight, but I don’t know what normal would feel like. It wouldn’t move on accident, that’s for certain.
