Best G Shocks?
I never thought about getting a G shock, but have opened up to getting a modern one or a vintage one.
Based on some limited research, looks like the 5610 is the closest to the original model? I like the old version better that had the greenish blue backlight. Is this model you would recommend? Not sure how often I would wear it, but I want something with some historical significance. Open to vintage but not sure if I want to spend thousands. Maybe a few hundred |

So many to pick from, both new and vintage.
Two favourites from my collection are the DW-6600: Image from Google Image from Google And the GW-9200 Riseman Image from Google Image from Google I could keep going, so many to pick from but I'm certain other members will give their suggestions. |

Every collection should have a Gshock imho. For me I love the squares and lately the 2100's (Casioak). For the money and features they are unbeatable.

I think the closest to the original model would be the GW-5000. It’s generally considered to be the most direct descendent.
More premium than other plastic/resin G-Shocks, it has a full steel inner case, a softer more comfortable strap, and a screw-down case back. If you like the greenish backlight, try to get the GW5000 as opposed to the new GW5000-U (updated), which had a whiter LED light. I love mine, I wear it quite a bit. |

Have a red square something or other that I absolutely adore but I hate the reverse display. So instead I just bought a GW-5000u for my imminent skiing trip - basically a Japan-only model that is as close as you’ll get to the original G-shock. It’s arriving in a few days so I’ll post opinions.

Best G-Shock for ... what? What's your expectation? How are you going to wear it? How well you read some digitals without reading glasses? :D
It all depends. I can whole heartedly recommend GA-B2100, GWM-5160U, GW-5000U, these are great "basic" G_Shocks that you can set it and forget it. Another one is the GST-B400. Great slim G-Shocks with some metal elements. And the Vintage MRG are gems that nobody talks about. And MTG-B1000/2000/3000 are nice as well. More "high end" G-Shocks without getting into modern MRG. Modern MRG are truly awesome. Their case and bracelet are very well made.

it's true; I have 3 MR-Gs, and the build quality is up there. might seem blasphemous to spend that type of money on a "Casio," but these don't feel like plastic / resin watches.

Love a good G-Shock and as others have said there are so many to choose from with a real mix of features and functions. My preference is for the G's with solar charging.
My favourite is the GBD-H1000 which I use when running, skiing etc although the G-Shock app is not the best. Would love a GPR-B1000 Rangeman at some point. |

I have a Casioak for working out and wearing in situations where I’m uncomfortable with a Rolex.
The only thing that’s a bit frustrating is setting it or adjusting when it gets out of whack. Seems like I have to pull up YT every time I need to change something. Considering picking up the BT version to help with this… |

IMO (and I am biased cause I own one) the best MRG (so far) is the MRG-G2000. It has the "complete package" of multiband 6, BT and GPS time synch, and it has the fully lumed applied indices, and the "massive" size. There are other MRG with "special metal treatment", but those cost a few folds more than my "basical" MRG-G2000. Those would be the best, I guess. LOL

I also have a Casioak and probably get more comments on it than any other watch I wear. Agree it is a pain to set / change. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I like them made from steel.
The MTG is cheap, GPS controlled accuracy, travel watch, dual time

I'm a little shocked to be honest, as I've read all about how this is the 'most true to the spirit of the original', and how it's 'built to a better standard', but I didn't quite understand how true that would be. It feels just like every other square G-shock, but taken up a league or two - from the materials to the weight to the feel of the buttons to the silky smoothness of the strap, it's not the same watch at all. Still packs all the best bits - multi-band, tough solar etc...Massively impressed and very excited to take it skiing next week. If you want a square G - and if you love the history, you probably should - there is no alternative. And I say that having tossed the GW-S5600U-1JF immediately back in the box in faux disgust. This Japan-only model boasts a carbon-fibre reinforced strap and is the lightest G-shock you can buy. But it feels like a toy compared to the 5000. GW-5000U-1JF GW-S5600U-1JF |
