Icon20 5 Year Rollie Envy, Conquered

Although new to the forum, I have been referencing these pages for about 2 years. I bought my wife a ladies oyster, diamond face, non-date jubilee in 2001 as an anniversary gift. Since then, I have been comparing her Rolex to my Citizen (a reliable timepiece, for sure.) I have continually compared Swiss mechanicals and thought, "one day." In these 6 years I have been "this close" to buying something. I went from Submariner, Omega Seamaster, Explorer II, TT Submariner, Serti Sub, Seamaster again. I always had sticker shock whenever the time came. A year ago, my wife saw the YM on a billboard in Chatanooga and she said "why don't you get that one?" $$$$ I said. Well, on a whim last month, I got my wife into an AD near where I live. There were 2 40mm TT Yachtmasters in the case, a champagne face and a steel face, and a TT Blue Sub. I tried them all, but she flipped over the TT YM champagne. She twisted my arm and I walked out with it. I never thought that I could support such a bling piece, but I couldn't be more happy. The wallet hurts, but remorse dissolves when I look at my wrist. Wow. I am pleased to be part of the forum. Now I don't feel like a voyeur!

Welcome Chris, thanks for the story, very interesting.
It is always difficult to pull the trigger on the first Rolex and I can understand your caution and apprehension when contemplating your first purchase.
One thing to consider is that your watch is still worth a lot of money, so it isn't as if you have lost the use of that money, you have just directed its use towards a watch.
Sounds like you are very happy with your YM and it is serving you well.

What a great wife! Definitely a keeper! Lucky you!

I have a TT YM also. SS/YG with the blue face... Love it. perhaps my favorite Rolex.

Did not have a great woman encouraging me to get it. Quite the opposite actually.

Welcome and thanks for finally joining in!
