Which more difficult-16202st or 15407st?
I did try to do a posts search but couldn’t find answers/opinions.
For those people with an established and relationship with AP and their boutique, is it harder to be allocated a 16202st or 15407st? Also, does allocation of these watches really require HQ approval? Thank you. |

Agree, 15407ST is harder. The manager in our boutique evaded the question when I asked where approval for the openworked happened, although it seemed that it was above the boutique level.

15407 is more difficult to get. I’ve been told all openworked and jumbos require corporate approval.

15407 is definitely harder to get. 16202 only requires regional AP approval like APNA. 15407 requires the regional office to approve the allocation and then requires Switzerland to sign off on it. That's my understanding of how the process works.

I got my 15407 before my 16202….
However, I didn’t ask for the 16202, it just showed up…. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thank you all. What you all said is exactly how it seems to me. I didn’t realize the big difference in approval levels, but it makes sense. At the same time, it makes sense and is understandable that there are collectors like Willyjo, Conkers, etc. with well established strong relationships with AP and their respective boutiques that understand their clients and what they may like, which facilitates allocations. Still, the process and relative level of difficulty is what it is, which must be telling about a client and their relationship when they receive a 15407 allocation. |

For me, it’s 9 pieces total, including a 15407 and a concept, and still no jumbo (despite my many requests).
I wish my 16202 would “show up” too! |

Production is relatively low for both, and we know demand is high (among those who qualify by AP criteria), so I do hope you receive yours soon. I know the boutiques don’t like to promise ETAs, but it is nicer to see some consistent pattern of allocations at this level. |

Out of curiosity did you purchase all 9 of your pieces directly from the AP boutique or was it over a longer period of time from different sources? |

Your profile should be able to get a 16202 for sure. Just doesn't seem right that they allocated you a 15407 and concept and not a Jumbo yet. I assume all of your 9 pieces were from the boutique? Hope you get an incoming soon.

There is also an application process that was mentioned that is required for both pieces. I believe it is a thorough review of you and your client profile as well as some other factors they don't mention to us. |

Is the 15407CE much more difficult to obtain vs. the steel version?
If I skip the jumbo on my journey, will it help me get the 15407 quicker? are the frosted gold rainbow versions of the double balance wheel openwork discontinued? If not, where do the white gold and pink gold rank in terms of difficulty to obtain when compared with the steel and ceramic versions? I know it's different for everyone, but good to have some references. Thanks. |

The ceramic equivalent to the 15407st is the 15416CE. It is notably harder to get than the 15407. I believe the frosted gold rainbow is even more difficult given the limited numbers, but not sure.

For something as rare as the 15412BC the wait might just as well be forever at a particular location, if there happen to be a few VVIPs that have asked for one.

I misspoke! It’s 10 actually. Long period of time, and from some different sources. I had a great thing going with my AD until they lost dealer status. Everything since 2019 has come from the boutique, and that’s 5 of the 10.

ah ok, that makes sense. Same here, my first 4 Offshores where from ADs and other sources, but when my AD lost status in 2019 I switch to the boutique in 2021 and have bought 2 pieces (offshore and RO) from them directly. Hoping for a 15510or and 15407 in the next couple of years

I got my 15407 first, but I haven't asked for a 16202.
I was told the 15407ST and 15407OR were equal in difficulty, then the ceramic is definitely more difficult. The boutique is aware that my wife wants a 15468BA (37mm rainbow OW), but I haven't bothered having a real discussion on where that falls yet, especially when I don't think this movement will be around all that much longer.

I've had the impression that AP is one of the few brands that actually "keep score" no matter where you purchased -- AD or boutique. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.

Yes they do, especially when it comes to pieces that need corporate approval. Your collection of AP's regardless of where you purchased it carries some weight when looking at your profile. All other watches that can be allocated at the boutique level, the decision is made by boutique management. I think that's where your purchase history at the boutique carries more weight. At least that's how I understand the process.

Everyones journey is different. My 16202 was the 4th piece purchased at the boutique, 5th piece was a 15407st.
