Rolex, Panerai, or IWC

I'm asking on a Rolex forum on purpose. When I started watch collecting 20 years ago I would stay away from Rolex because I thought they were a little generic and that people with money had no imagination and would just buy Rolex. I started with timepieces from Cartier, Breitling, Omega, and Corum. I didn't get into Rolex till about 5 years ago. I started with an Explorer II 16570, then sub 16610, and now a 116610LV.
I'm trying to down size and really choose only one daily wearer. What brand and model would suffice the daily beater and be able to wear on special occasions that require a suit?

I want to add that I like a date function.

Just seems overly excessive to wear a $10k Rolex. I don't wear my Hulk much. On a daily basis I wear either my blue Pelagos or Breitling Aerospace. Both Titanium. I like the weightlessness. Super comfortable. If a bang it on something, I'm not freaked out about it. I guess I rather have money in the bank versus on my wrist. Don't get me wrong, I think my hulk is beautiful. If I had more money I'd probably want a gold sub. Not really a budget thing.

I do miss my 16570 Explorer. It was under the radar and versatile.

But then I look at my hulk and...... love it

I’d keep my Rolex. I’ve owned many of the watches you’ve mentioned above and always come back to Rolex.

Rolex and Omega make the better daily beaters. I'd go with an Explorer 1 or a Speedy. Both cover all the bases. The Exp1 is totally versatile, from polo shirt to suit, it goes with anything.

I'm in the same boat. I just got my hulk and I'm about to buy an IWC pilot for my daily beater.

I wear my hulk on daily basis to the office and it is great. Unless your work involves excessive physical activity that may impose big risk banging the watch, I would say use your hulk and enjoy to the max. I can't imagine parting with mine as it is very beautiful watch.

If keeping the money in the bank is your aim, then you should sell all your watches and buy an apple watch or something similar. Good luck with your decision

Any watch with a date function.

Not sure what kind of answer you are looking for here?

simply daily watch that goes anywhere and does anything.

Omega Aqua Terra. I prefer the one with the day and the date.

edit: the omega I could likely have as my one and only. but I still prefer and would, if I ever need to, have my DJ41 on jubilee as my only. It is very simple but perfect for any occasion I could ever find myself in.

I get the Submariner as a sport watch and the discussion can be had about not going with a suit. I think the classic submariner works with everything. Take your pick, six digit, five digit, date, no date they all work. You own a Hulk, so why not put the others up for a month and just wear the Hulk. You will know in 30 days if you are a one watch person and if the green works. If it was me I would have the Hulk, since you already own it, and a white or silver face DJ II or DJ41. I think the DJ can be a little more dressy depending on the situation and can still be sporty. If you were starting from scratch I would say black face sub date and the DJ combination.

a DJ (either 41 or 36) could do both. I'd go with fluted bezel and oyster bracelet

I've got an IWC UTC on my wrist now as I type this. I'm surprised this watch isn't more popular, two time zones, a date, and a comfortable bracelet. It's an ideal size at roughly 39mm. The only reason I want to sell it is to fund other hobbies, but I really believe the early 2000s IWC pilot watches were amazing.

I just tried on an Omega Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon. I love that watch. Now I'm contemplating whether to sell my Hulk and get that. Any comments? The angle of the pic makes it look really big on my wrist. I think it fits perfectly. The strap is so comfy. I could go brown or black shoes with the grey strap. Has online else tried on this watch?

I think you'll regret selling the Rolex. If you're downsizing... and still have an affinity for watches, you should at least need to keep one Rolex. As for the daily, get a Tudor. IMO, I don't care for IWC or any others and Omega's are overpriced for what they are. I do find them to be great watches... but I just can't compare them to a Rolex or even a Tudor.

This is only my opinion and it doesn't count for much but flipping your Sub LVc for the GSotM would be a downgrade. If you prefer the Omega then go for your life; your money, your wrist.

However, just take a look at any reputable seller of pre-loved watches and check out how much a, say, two year old LVc sells for and compare that with the quite heavily discounted price of a BNIB GSotM from a TRF trusted seller.

Here's one from the online store of a TRF trusted seller:

http://www.caliberswiss.com/omega-sp...-44-51-99-001/

If you like the Omega that much (and why not, it's a very handsome piece), try and add it if finances allow but I would not trade the LV for one.

I'm going to hang onto the hulk. I know I will regret selling it. Resale value of the GSOTM was a concern. The AD offered to take two thousand off the retail price if I decided to go back and purchase from him. Such a shame that the grey market for Omega watches are so low. I think Omega is a quality luxury brand.

My story is similar, stayed away from Rolex for a while and explored other brands like you only couldn't quite pull the trigger on a Corum Admiral's Cup, altho I did somehow on a Zenith Defy and UN Blue Surf! If I had to pick a SS daily now it would be the Hulk LVc, it is mine.
