Red Wing Boots?

Another shoe thread

Does anyone here have experience with Red Wing boots? I'm looking to buy a new daily shoe, these are the exact style I'm looking for.

https://www.redwingamsterdam.com/pro...amber-harness/

I'd appreciate your input.

I have a pair of amber harness iron rangers. Took a long time to break in but they are a great boot. I sized down a whole size as well to get the right fit.

However, since buying my Alden Indy boots, the red wings don't get worn very much anymore.

They have an outlet close to me. Looks like very nice stuff.

No personal experience though.

Yet, I can say that I like the style of the ones you chose very much b

Great boots and I have owned several pairs over the years and have a pair on order now. They take several weeks of wear to start breaking them in but once you get there they are great.

The brand has been around forever, I don't think you can go wrong with their products.

I've been wearing Red Wing boots for twenty years. They are a very well constructed boot, but the materials are decidedly workmanlike. You won't see fine leathers in their range, but the boots are very durable and virtually indestructible in normal use.

You should be warned that Red Wings take some time to break in. They will likely hurt for the first couple wears. Then they will be uncomfortable for a while. Then they'll feel like slippers, melded to your feet.

Great Boots! I have four pair from their heritage line which includes the Iron Rangers you are looking at. I am a Beckman Fan over the Iron Ranger but they should have plenty to choose from.

Just to echo the sentiments of others, you can't go wrong with Iron Rangers.

Another option with a similar look to the boot you posted is the Wolverine Original 1000 Mile.

I tried the Iron rangers before and found them slippery as hell in the rain. Theres little to no grip on that sole. I'm a huge RW fan and have been wearing the #405's for years. YMMV

For that reason I ordered myself the Iron Ranger 8086 with Vibram mini lug sole. WAY more grip than the standard rangers. Wore mine in sole slippery conditions last year and much improved.

I have these exact boots and they are very well made and rugged. Not the most comfortable boots I've owned but the inserts help.

On my shelf are two pairs of Red Wing 953, a rugged work boot locally sold mostly to farmers. I'm not out in them every day but still alternate between pairs. One pair is 10+ years old and has been resoled by the factory, the other 10 months ...

So my only contribution is that you'll want the boots to rest a day between uses. I remember when I only had one pair of boots. After a while of daily hard use, day after day, the boot loses it's mojo.

I don't but I wear my oak street trench boots to weddings all the time, on my feet 12 hours easily. I did have rockys for work on a front end loader, I found those to be nicer than red wings for physical labor

I'm a watchmaker, the boots won't see a lot of hard work

Thanks for all the input gentlemen

I've had a pair for 10 years or so, now I just wear them for working in the yard. Great work boots, I bet I get a few more years out of them.

Bought same model for myself and two sons years ago. Nice sturdy boot. Easy to maintain. We ordered a half size down per Red Wing recommendation. Worked fine.

I can't add much to the above. I wore them offshore for years. If you excuse the pun, they're as tough as old boots. Not cheap but worth every penny.

Great solid Boots, I just can't recommend them highly enough. But when they say breaking in can be painfull they mean it. I wore my Redwing Beckmans for an hour a day in my chair without walking for a solid week before wearing for a full day. That day I sat mostly and they still made my feet sore. Break them in as gradual as possible or they''ll make you feel like your breaking your feet in instead.

Don't forget to use shoe trees.

Wow, I've been wanting a white gold Air King copy - bracelet and all ...

The rationale behind the two pairs? The foot sweats; the shoe wants a day to lose the moisture.

RedWings are made from more sturdy stuff. Just too bad Iron Rangers don't or didn't use to come with a rubber sole.

Yep, when it comes to leather it's best to always give the leather a day off due to moisture.

Use some shoe trees. If it doesn't actually help with moisture it does help with maintaining the shape of the shoe or boot and keeping the shoe or boot fresher. I usually put the trees in after about 1/2 hour or hour after taking them off.

I was in the produce business for 10 years and wore Red Wings everyday. When I first got them I hated them, they were so uncomfortable, but had the durability required to deal with the wet and cold I dealt with daily. Once they finally broke in, they were perfect. Real good boots.
