Haven’t had any since January but it’s definitely work. Helps to be local to the Maryland stuff. The Chesapeake is in much better shape these days.

For easy eating I love stone crab claws.

Cantler's outside Annapolis is my favorite. Grew up eating these with my Dad on a table in our basement covered with newspaper. Blue crabs, old bay and beer; love it.

Yeah, we don't have those lovely crabs in our inland waterways over here. But we do have plenty of your invasive North American red signal crayfish invading our waterways! I'm doing my bit to help keep numbers down!

My absolute favorites.

I see lots of females in the second pic.

How do you cook and eat them over there, hot or cold?

I just boil them up for three-four minutes and eat them cold with a salad and various mayo dips. Flavour is sweeter than Lobster IMO. They are everywhere in our waterways and causing real damage to riverbanks and have almost wiped out our native and smaller species with a disease they carry.
The good news for me is nobody else I know catches them so my supply is pretty abundant!

That's the way.

I get them from my local fisherman and eat 3-4 kilos a week during season which sadly just ended.

They’re awesome. I’m in Miami almost the entire stone crab season but I hit the OD point sometime in January and can’t have another one until the following season

You're not supposed to eat the soft shell on those, it tastes like rubber!

Well Sooners can go Blue now, but the better choice for me is mid-Oct when these are in-season...

Of course, Joe's Stone Crab in SoBe is famous, but I know a guy who owns a restaurant on the FL west coast - and a string of traps, too. I call about 4PM and he tells me what's what. I'm headed there in 2nd week of season to find out if Irma fouled all the crabbing grounds (hopefully not).

This is what Whole Foods in South Beach looks like during stone crab season:

The ones closest to the camera are the largest I’ve ever seen.

The Stone Crab lunch special at Joe's in Miami are excellent. But nothing beats a good bunch of Maryland blues steamed with Old Bay and accompanied by a good cold beer,

Sorry guys but you are ALL wrong!

The worlds best crabs are Dungeness Crabs from the Pacific West Coast and San Francisco's Fishermans Wharf!

Westside!
I think our season starts in November. We live on the coast and can see the lights of the fishing boats at night which line the entire horizon. It's beautiful and very festive with Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Agree with you on the Maryland blue crabs! D.C. is my hometown and grew up on those!
