Live Auction - seized assets

Hey TRF brother/sister hood. What are your thoughts on acquiring watches in a venue like this? I got an add sent to me with pics and list of various brands ROLEX, PATEK and others. I got special invitation to advance preview. Anyone have experience with this? Good/bad, just don't want to waste my time or $$$$

Personally, I would check it out. Never know what you might come across. The only downfall is that you don't know what you're getting until after you get it normally, not sure if the auction you are going to is final sale or not but thats usually the case.

Every time I have viewed them live, pieces went for crazy money. No deals that I saw.

Yeah, I concur. Even auctions for cars don't really lead to "deals". I think my thought of "auctions" is things going for super cheap, because money is needed or sellers don't know what they got, but it's been my experience that the seller actually gets more than what item is really worth, because of bidding wars.

Id refrain. The internet is the place to find a relative deal.

I've been to a few repo/seizure auctions. A buddy of mine bought a nice newer center console yellowfin for about $50-75k less than other used ones but mostly I've seen stuff go for about the norm. Not many crazy deals to be had.

I've seen a lot of items sell for more than the new price. It's rare that you get a good deal on something that has any value.

I’ve looked at those and they all seem to overpriced and/or overvalued. It is also worrisome that you don’t know the history behind them.

Much lesser chance of bargains since all those Repo/StorageUnit/AntiquesRoadshow shows on TV, everybody going to bid thinking those tv shows aren't rigged...

Oh hey, think there's a local Police auction this weekend Rolex, Patek, Omega... all "with warranty" too

On a side note I was talking to my Brother in laws dad today and he got a John Deere 7280r with 2300 hours and a cab for around $138k with fees. Similar models on heavy machinery sales sites were $200k. Just depends on how the bidding goes.
