Yep, 300-500. Late one night my son had to get a tow and the dude wouldn't take anything but cash. He wasn't gouging , so I had no issue with it, but had I not had it, we would have had to wait for a other tow truck at a minimum.

If I'm attending a watch function, a few thousand. Cash is king and never know when a nice piece will be offered. We'll just say security is not an issue with me for obvious reasons.

usually nothing. the world has moved beyond that stage I think? At least where I live. When I think about it, as the credit card is in the phone, I dont even carry a wallet.

Never liked money (especially coins) because who knows what fresh person have hold it before you? Nah to me its just an unnescessary transaction cost, no tears when they abandon money all together.

Funny, the guys behind me with no cash couldn't buy the $1000 generator from the hardware store when the California wildfires hit last year. The store had no electricity because the power company had shut everything down as is the case here in CA, but that's for another thread, thus no card reader... CASH ONLY.

Only 2 generators left, all the suitors were sent off to find an ATM, but alas, there wasn't an ATM for miles as again, no power.... Guess who got the last generators during the fires? You got it, the guy with the grubby, sweaty dirty banknotes....

The end.

Ah, I thought we were talking about gum. Anyway, I'll be sure to carry $1k in cash from now on, in case the place that sells backup generators doesn't have its own backup generator

Zero. Cash, whether paper or coin, is the grimiest, most germ-infested object you are apt to handle during the course of a day. Unless you are into licking your kitchen sink.

May just be our own cell phone that is the dirtiest thing each of us touch on a daily basis. I suggest we all throw them out. You can at least clean metal, but not worth it on small coins. Ironically we didn't have this mess until we moved off the gold standard. Now print and print, but at least that brings down the velocity of money if being sanitary is a concern.

Max $20-40 for me, I like to carry a thin wallet and rarely if ever run into situations where I need it.

Just over a $100 in various bills. Most if it tucked away hidden from sight just in case I need it.

I sometimes have just a few bucks in my wallet. Only pay with Credit Cards and earn points/miles. Has been that way for years. Have not paid for a hotel night or an airfare since the 90’s.

Way more lucrative to pay with Credit Cards.

It’s amazing how a question even like this can become contentious. Truly amazing.

Always have cash for tipping.
The amount depends on where I am. On vacation or traveling obviously more than places where I can expect the situations where a tip is appropriate.

I think if you're a germaphobe then it would be a problem.

Fact is the world and our bodies are packed with germs, bacteria and all sorts of nasty stuff.

We are constantly walking around flaking of skin, (epithelials) hair and "moisture" and breathing out god knows what else, and everything we come into contact with has millions of bacteria on it.

My feeling is if we can't fight it/handle it, we won't last long. And sometimes some of these things can almost wipe us out as epidemics have in the past. And apparently covid is almost no threat to us from surface contact but instead passes through the air from person to person.

No matter how rich, or "civilized" we have become we are all dirt bags operating in a dirty world.

My dirty 2 cents.

I am always on the look out for bargains so around £2500 all the time and a hell of a lot more if I am going to an antique or collectors fair
A couple of years back I missed a full set 1680 straight out of a house clearance all but mint £5000 and I only had my normal £2500 on me
It still hurts so never again
Cards don’t seem very convenient to me especially when waiting behind someone’s who’s forgotten their pin or who’s card doesn’t work

$20, but always have a $100 bill tucked away.

PS: I may take extra depending on where I’m going and always have extra in the gun safe at home. Whether at a flea market, or getting someone to do some work at my house, I can usually get a lower price if I pay in cash. I’m pretty sure that’s the money that they don’t report. Cash means no record.

Time to ditch that mobile phone as that’s the number one harbourer of germs
