Dial and hands during overhaul

Do hands and dial get any attention during an overhaul? Are there solvents used to submerge/clean these components or will that perhaps simply cause corrosion/damage in the long run?

Dials and hands are not touched with anything metal and put safely under cover till installation. Only hands that are being relumed dipped in acetone will quickly and cleanly remove old lube and oils and get ready for relume without damaging finish of hands. Rikki

Not sure how, but the hands of this 5512 were cleaned at service. Maybe rodico putty. It does not do anything with the corrosion but it does remove corrosion residue.
The gunk was removed..no relume.
