Mustang Mach E - GT

Placed an order for one last night. The reviews I have been watching that were released in the last couple of weeks (Ford did a big press pool release of vehicles) have been extremely positive. None of the press vehicles are the GT model, which by all appearances and specs looks pretty hot. Car is eligible for full $7,500 credit and required a $500 deposit. Have been wanting an electric alternative to Tesla for a long time, I think Musk is a prick.

I am also of the school of thought that the supercharger network is nothing other than a very expensive PR stunt that they get far too much press on. The vast, and I mean 95+%, of EV charging is done at home. I think the discussion and conversation of range anxiety is absurd. I know of no one that has a Tesla that does not have another vehicle.

Toyota's hydrogen fuel cell technology will eventually win the day, just going to take a bit. I also think that "on the road" charging will only be viable when solid state batteries and extremely high capacity chargers are in use.

Not an actual Mustang IMO no matter what Ford is calling it!

Enjoy your electric car.

I'm a huge mustang fan but still haven't formed an opinion on the Mach E yet. I really need to see one in person before I render a verdict. I like the idea.

I went electric this past lease, leased a 2018 Nissan Leaf, great car.
Comes off lease Sept 2021, will take a look at the Mustang.
Once you go electric, you will never go back to combustion again.

About 2 years ago my BIL in Charleston told me when we were down there for thanksgiving that he was going to order a Mustang in the near future. I forgot all about till we were down there this Thanksgiving and he told me he just ordered one. I was excited for him till he showed me what it really was. I bit my lip not to laugh but he’s excited. As a former Mustang owner I don’t like the cheesy path Ford took with naming this thing even if it’s really good it’s still not a Mustang no matter how they try to spin it.

I like the idea of fuel cell, you don't have to haul around heavy battery. But charging will be a huge issue. Even in Northern California, there is / was an interruption of the supply, and the people actually couldn't get their hydrogen car fill up.

And going from LA to SF for example only has 1 hydrogen charging station in between I think. If that station is down when I got there, then I would be screwed.
For electricity, at least I would have a few options for recharging.

Anyway, for now, I would be putting my money on EV. Mach E seems like a good choice. :)

I get the "Mustang" naming deal, probably not the best idea today. I have read they are going for a brand instead of an individual car. Definitely will dilute the pony car itself, but may open up some other opportunities, like a mustang sedan, there is a rendering of a GT500 shooting brake, stuff like that. Dodge doing the crazy things they are doing is getting a lot of manufacturers into that space.

I could personally care less about the name, just want to try out this new technology, and see this as a viable alternative to Tesla in terms of price and performance.

The other possible way to look at this is a way to actually save the pony car. They are only selling 70K or so units a year and dropping. There was a point in time that the 911 was almost gone, until Porsche decided to build......high performance sedans and SUVs. I can see the Mustang brand as their high performance/EV brand.

Sure, it is not a traditional Mustang, but it is all about name recognition. Ford has a few models that everyone knows, so they took the name for that reason. Well, they have been successful because there is a lot of chatter that the car is"not" a Mustang, so you see, even we on the watch community forum are talking about it.

It just received the SUV of the Year award, whatever that means. I have watched lots of videos about it on youtube and it seems something to consider. As I said in an earlier post, I have a 2018 Leaf, comes off lease in Sept 2021 so I will take a look.

As far as charging I put in a Level 2 (240volt line) in my garage. There are some free chargers near me, so in the warm weather and not so warm weather I drive to the free chargers and walk or scoot home (yes I have an electric scooter, lots of fun), so I charge for free. As I said earlier, once you go electric you will never go back to a combustion engine car again. Good bye gas stations.

Congratulations... a thread without pictures, I’d like to see the car without googling it

I drive a PHEV BMW330e, love the fact that I can drive to work and home on electric only, which is about 80% of my driving. I average about 2.5Litres per hundred KM or 94 mpg(US)/ 112 mpg Imperial.

I also love the fact that aside from the added battery weight which I believe is about 300 lbs, the car drives like a normal 3 series.

I know on this forum the car guys rule the roost and that’s OK ... I truly do admire some of the exotic cars you guys own.

To each their own

Might sell better as a “GT40 SUV-E”

This is a good grocery getter, soccer kid transporter and car-pooler around the owner’s environs. Charge at home and eliminate the gas-guzzler SUV in the garage.

Considering the advantages of EV’s, there is more reduction in US fuel consumption if manufacturers aim their efforts at the least fuel efficient segments. The tradeoff is those who take annual long-range over-the-road vacations. But I’ve noticed a trend among friends - they rent an SUV or Van from Enterprise to avoid putting the mileage on their precious SUV.

They are ugly. Not sure why all these companies think EV owners want ugly cars; Prius, Bolt, Tesla and now this one.

If a company would actually make a good looking EV they might sell even more than they do.

This one is in no way, shape or form a Mustang. They are stealing the name to try and fool folks into buying it. Yes the reviews have been great. They get paid to say that. However ugly is still ugly.

I drove next to one rolling, they are much faster off the line than rolling. Rolling fast, but not insane fast. Launching them must be awesome though.

Like it or hate it, electric cars are the future. If you don’t want to call this a Mustang I get it, but (again like it or hate it) there will be a future of electric “muscle” cars. I like the looks of this and hear it can kick A#$.

BTW, my next car will be electric (the next step from my current hybrid) but I also own a Vette, so am at both ends of the spectrum.

That's not a mustang... They should've gone with a new name. As for an EV I'll take Tesla's superior technology/software, manufacturing, safety, charging network, and performance any day over any ICE company who are just taking their first baby steps into a production ready EV.

Agreed. I have said this on another thread but the biggest issue with EV at least in America is charging. No one wants to just pay Elon and use his already established huge charging network. None, zero of these EVs are going to ever become mainstream over ice until the network is so large you don’t get range anxiety. All these companies want there own and it is just stupid. So every walmart parking lot is going to need to be filled with 10 different types of chargers for all the different makes.

Tesla is so far ahead of all these other companies in terms of coverage.

Been watching the review vids on this, looks great. I’ll consider EV for my next car (anything but Tesla, friends tell me build quality and service is horrid).
