Good question it makes me think of these versus from The Bible.

1 Timothy 6:6-9 KJV
But godliness with contentment is great gain. [7] For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. [8] And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. [9] But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

I have more things than I will ever need, I just don't want those things to have me.

Matthew 16:26 KJV
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

That is a good question we should all think about.

Reasonably happy, not content at all. I have too much I want to achieve!

A lot of wisdom there.

A good quote from Dennis Prager relevant to the OP:

"If you equate happiness with success, you will never achieve the amount of success need to make you happy. There is always more success that can be achieved. Identifying success with happiness is like moving the goalposts back 10 yards every time your football team has a first down. Your team may be more and more successful, but the goalposts will always remain unreachable."

I know exactly what you mean. I've survived more things than any man has a right to.

Grateful every day. Happiness is slowly gaining momentum and contentment will come with retirement.

I’m grateful, with what I have.
Most importantly is my heath.

I'm getting there. My quest for feeling content has been about finding happiness and joy in the present and what I have currently instead of focusing on the absences in my life. Definitely a journey for sure. Happiness is a critical step for me to feel content.

Thanks to Covid (never thought I would say that), I am content.

Covid has shown me how fragile life / people really are and made me take a re-look at my life priorities and the things that make me happy.

Overall I'm very happy, content, and grateful for every day (with today being especially wonderful). For many years, I've felt like my life isn't missing anything major. Reminding myself about how fortunate I am compared to most other people on the planet really helps me contextualize whatever problems I have and irritations I feel.
