It is well engineered but only time will tell if the design is tough enough.

There's actually TWO glidelock systems the subc and DeepSea glidelocks are totally different - the DeepSea glidelock allows you to make adjustments WITHOUT taking the watch off whereas the subc glidelock means you have to take the watch off to make adjustments.
The DeepSea engineering overall is remarkable.

Since Rolex re-engineered the glidelock this last year my guess is that they worked the bugs out.

It appears that my sub has the older style Glidelock.

Does anyone know why Rolex redesigned it and what (if any) advantages there are with the newer version?

Sorry for resurrect this thread but the "2nd" version of the glidelock only apply to the steel model right?

Im looking at my new SubC 116613 now and it seem while the 2nd Picture seem to match my glidelock. However the 1st Picture my SubC glidelock seem to be of the "1st" version glidelock, I Think it has something to do with the fact that its a twotone glidelock.

Anyone with the new SubC 116613 can confirm?

I have both the glidelock and the easylock. The easylock is way more comfortable.

i really like the new clasp but i prefer the weight of older models. I found it uncomfortable to wear my ceramic gmt all day.

Yes, the glidelock bracelet does fit on the 16610. I just put one on my 16610LV, thanks to Sam.

Looks like they re-engineered the mechanism for a cost savings by eliminating the female-female 1/2 link swivel. ( except on the TT which still has it ). You can now connect a full link directly to the mechanism. A standard 1/2 link is now included with the bracelet ( except on the TT ).

The folding clasp that sets against your wrist is now longer, which I see is a design improvement. With it sticking it out past the end of the glidelock itself, the bracelet pulls against your wrist forcing the back end of the glidelock to remain closed. In the original model, that was the major design flaw that I noticed, that the back end would flex open.

good points but i'd be more concerned with the integrity of the much smaller pin connecting the fold-over not visible when worn. that't the part that won't hold up. the other concerns seem more cosmetic and not a fail prone issue. i've also had more issues with link pins coming loose on the 6 digit ref# rolexes. never had a pin come loose on my last geb 5# refs even without loctite. my newer models seem more prone to unscrewing on their own.

Must admit - did not know until read this thread, that there are two different Glidelocks for SubC and Deepsea. The stuff you pick up daily here is amazing!

I knew that but the fact that there were two versions of the same glidelock i did not know. just looked at my wrist and was glad to see i have the second version. thanks Duey for the pics.
