Stem question

Hi guys and gals, I'm new to this forum. I have a question and hope you can tell me what is going on. I have a Rolex Sub from 1967, I bought it about 24 years ago. About 12 years ago it needed service because it was loosing too much time but also because the stem poped out and wouldn't allow me to set the time. Guess what, a month ago the same thing happended again. Like before, I sent the watch out for an overhaul, it now looks and runs great. I can't get out of my mind the stem popping out. Is it something I'm doing? I'm pretty careful when I set the time, or is it something breaking or loosing up?

Thanks

Lance

The stem is held in place by a setting lever, and in that particular watch the setting lever is held in place by a screw. The screw can become loose over time from the motion of the stem being pulled out and pushed in over and over again.

If the screw loosens about 2 or more turns in that watch, the stem will pull right out of the watch.

Ah, so it didn't break. Thats good news. I can deal with having it serviced every 12 years or so. Much thanks.
