Even in price it is not a trade down, the 5164 on the grey/unworn market is priced higher than the Smurf, so it's just a trade across.

Thanks for all the feedback. Some great points and alternatives tat I haven't considered.

Not to get sidetracked, but what if I did the 5164 for a sky dweller move ? I know it's not the most popular Rolex model but I've always been attracted to the complication and the wg with black dial or the chocolate version both sing to me.

Better move then the smurf ??? TIA !

The 5164 is an under-the-radar watch (though less so than 5167). The Smurf is on-the-radar with it's familiar design and captivating blue collar - yet still slightly subdued. The SkyDweller is more "flashy" due to size and looks.

If it sings go for it. I prefer Smurf as the "middle ground" and a classic - but if you are more adventurous and "modern" do it! The SkyD has great "in-your-face" wrist presence.

But...

...so why would you even consider the Sky Dweller?

Your last several threads have questioned trading the 5164, so I think it's clear it should go. I guess the only decision is how flashy you want to be since the Sky Dweller is a lot more noticeable than the Smurf, and they're both great watches.

I love the SkyD and esp the bezel command, but it is pretty thick. Make sure of that first. Choco dial is obviously stunning I think.

I personally don't think the WG Skydweller is more flashy than the Smurf. The Smurf blue really stands out.

I agree that the blue on the 116619LB can be quite striking. However, I think a fluted bezel that catches and reflects light is more eye-catching.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what the OP decides.

"...so why would you even consider the Sky Dweller? "

I was referring to the 116618 which at YG is a lot more noticible to me then a WG piece (especially one on a croc strap) like the Skydweller that I would consider.

IMO the SkyD is more flashy than the Smurf in any configuration because of the size, style, dial and fluted bezel.

I still like it, it all depends on how flashy you want to be when saying goodbye to the stealth 5164.

So you put all three on the table and insist I take one away with me?
It's the Patek. And I don't even like the Aquanaut. I just don't like PM case/bracelet after endlessly fiddling with a 116509 (WG Daytona). It never stayed where I wanted it to stay on my wrist, no matter how loose/tight/perfect the bracelet was adjusted. YWMV (your wrist may vary)! But I don't appreciate the weight like most folks do. It's not comfortable to me (again, my opinion, and it may not be consistent with your opinion).

My imaginary uncle ;)
It's just my way of leveling the playing field to make a choice easier.
Doesn't work for everybody...

I have both watches. The 5164 is awesome however since buying the smurf in late December it's the only watch I've basically worn. The damned thing is just magnificent.

Having both, I'm a big believer that you need both. They both serve different purposes. I do find myself using the 5164 more but I love gold.

It sounds like you are ready to move the 5164. Just take your time in deciding what to do with it.

Smurf is too bright, especially for anything professional. Co-worker has it and doesn't look right with dark colors as it makes it look even brighter
