Rolex BLNR or SD43

Hello all,

I am aware there have been previous threads on this but I wanted a fresh start and my fellow WIS opinion. I currently have a BLNR and am thinking of a lateral move to a SD43. I don't say upgrade as I view both as having equal value, just for different purposes. Here are some pictures with my Batman. I am asking for thoughts as to how you would all think the SD43 would look on my wrist and if I should make the trade? Thanks. My wrist size is ~6.75

I have been active on here for a little while, but I am quite the lurker as opposed to actively posting. I will do better!

Particularly given your wrist size, I’d strongly recommend the BLNR is this lineup.

Based on the wrist size and pictures, I would 100% stick with the blnr. Good luck on the decision.

Keep the BLNR, my wrist is closer to 8" and my BLRO is way more comfortable than my SD43. I typically wear the SD43 on the weekends and BLRO during the week.

It’s hard to say without actually seeing it on you 43 sounds like a big jump in size and it is a big watch but far from huge - the dial actually makes it look smaller somehow.

Some people express discomfort with it aswell so you really need to try it on and see how it fits.

Having said that I think it’s one of the best if not the best steel references ever made, I wear it almost 24/7; I think my wrists are slightly bigger than yours though:

Also on a side note, these close up wrist shots we all post don’t give you the full picture, here’s two pictures of my wearing my SD43 that reflect that quite well.

I just made the exact opposite trade last week. The SD43 fit well on my wrist(7 inch) but I hated how high it came off the wrist. The case back is way too thick for my liking. I enjoyed it for a year but knew it wasn't a long-term piece. I got a 116710BLNR on Saturday and couldn't be happier.

I would keep BLNR and purchase sd43. Both watches wear differently with different functions. You will not have issue wearing SD43.

Keep the BLNR as I think the SD43 may be a bit big on your wrist. But hey, it's your wrist so if you like the size, go for it.

OP, based on your photos, I'd stick with your amazing BLNR. I think any bigger will be too big.

I have both and I consider the BLNR as the center piece of my collection. While the SD43 is very very good, there's something special about having just a splash of blue that makes it pefect. It would be a different story if you have a very large wrist and we're talking about the Jame Cameron version of the SD.

Given you wrist size go for BLNR, will sit nicer and more proportioned on your wrist.

SD43 all day. I tried on the the BLNR and it was small on my wrist. Raced right to the AD when I got the call on the SD43

The advise you got about how to take a picture is so valid and this shot demonstrate that.
Mobile phone cameras hugely exaggerate objects and distort proportions when used for closeups. The best way to get a real sense of it is to use the portrait lens or Telephoto lens line the one iPhones have.
Anyways, in this shot I can see that you got the wrist for any watch size really.

Going by the pictures, the 40mm BLNR is at the upper end size wise for your wrist. If I were you, I would go nowhere near a SD43.

Hi !! i just sold my SD43 after wearing it for a year for a new Sub. I have the Pepsi on Jubilee and same size wrist like you. Teh Sd43 minus the extension clasp will sit well but is super heavy compared to the Batman on Oyster or even Pepsi on Jubilee.
I would never trade the Batman, but would try to buy a Sd43 if possible. ( i sold mine I it was just too heavy for daily wear - inspite me being a offshore marine pilot i stopped using it)

Jay is correct. I agree, it will fit you fine and look great! Personally, I’d choose the SD43 over the BLNR.
It’s not always about just your wrist size. The other factor that comes into play is the rest of your arm, body, etc…
Your arm resembles mine and Jay’s from what I can see, where the forearm is much thicker than just your wrist. There’s people with arms that stay thin, from their wrist to elbow, and some with bigger forearms…the latter helps with wearing a bigger watch, even if your wrist is below 7”, as shown by your second pic. I have the same size wrist a as yours, a bigger forearm, and wear ExpII 42mm, SD43, and DSSD, very comfortably. Wrist shots look way different than complete arm or body shots. The two pics you took are great examples.
If you like the SD43 more than the BLNR…I’d go for it for sure if I were you.

Have you tried a SD43 on? You need to, that’s the only real determining factor - personal fit. I’m betting against the SD43. With no other information I would say stick with BLNR.

I'm a huge SD43 fan (who doesn't really care for the BLNR lol), but, I would not even dream of replacing the BLNR.

Add it, yes, by all means. But not replace. Just my two cents.

Plenty of room left on your wrist for the SD43.

I personally find the SD43 to be more striking, more satisfying. I prefer it to any GMT in fact. I'm biased as divers are my favourite genre. GMTs are ok but I find them gimmicky as I have no use for a second or third time zone when I travel. Setting the watch to local time and mentally adding/subtracting hours if needed is good enough. Granted I don’t need a diver either, but I still choose the SD43 purely based on looks, the badass yet very wearable diver.
