Second Rolex Shop - How to Check Real or Fake?

Hi Everyone,

I am newbie in this forum. I am currently wearing Tag Heuer & Longines, willing to move into Rolex world. I have come across many peoples in internet talking about second hand Rolex. I manged and visited couple of te shops in the past few days. The used Rolex the shops are selling are amazing, the condition is as new, some are new (as claimed) but never be weared before and selling at discounted price. The shop owners looked honest. Here my questions, and really hope experienced watch expertist like you guys could give me a hand to really understand the games rules in this Real World Rolex Market:

Question:
1. Some peoples said Rolex is the good investement, most of the time, you can buy now and sell it few years down the road with profit, is that true?

2. Which model should I buy if Question 1 is true?

3. How to check the authentity of Rolex in the second hand Rolex shop? They claim the item selling come with certificate and box.

4. The second hand rolex shop provides 3rd warranty, something special?

5. My budget is limited, I am thinking about the entry level Rolex. Is Air King a good buy?

6. Is there any thing I need to pay attention to when dealing with this kind of shop?

7. Where they got all those Rolex from? Especially those so called "New but Never Be Weared Before"? All the Rolex are looked so new - the condition is excellent.

1. You should not think of a Rolex as an investment, it is a watch that does have a good level of retention value, but this is all.

2. Not applicable, but always buy the watch that appeals to your eye and heart.

3. Judge the watch to some extent on the reputation of the seller. Ask others about how the seller has treated them and if he sells genuine articles.

4. A warranty is only as good as the reputation of the seller. If you get a good seller you shouldn't even have to worry about a warranty.

5. Again get what appeals to you, an Air-King is a great watch, but it is 34mm and most Rolex models for men these days in the sports range are around 40mm, so again try it out yourself first to ensure you know the Air-King is a watch that you will enjoy.

6. There are many things to consider. But the reputation of the seller is the main issue.

7. There are a lot of people who sell their Rolex, and many others that wish to buy, that is nothing unusual.

There are many things to consider, and if you look around this forum you are surely to get some more useful information.

Better be certain that you'd be happy with a 34mm watch on your wrist. I have a small wrist and a 40mm sub is just right.

Get yourself a copy of the Rolex Report. Lots of great info in there for the pre-owned Rolex shopper. Also ask alot of questions here.

TK....Listen to me....A Rolex watch is the ONLY watch you will ever make a profit after you are bored with it a few years later.
For some specialty Rolex watches such as old GMT's Subs 1680 5513, Sea Dweller 1665 and all of the chronographs etc. etc. their value increases annually with better returns for your capital than any American stock you can possibly own today, with the exception of stock from Chinese telecomunications and Energy companies.

From a fellow Malaysian...Orchi can recommend that you re-consider your entry level to the world of Rolex...to its sport model range of watches to suit your present concerns...instead of the Oyster Perpetual Air-King(Ref 14010M)...or Oyster Perpetual Date(Ref 116200).

The Submariner 14060M(currently model with or without COSC) without Date...or 14060(ended 1999)...or the Date Submariner 16610(current) n Date Submariner 16800(prior model)...are the ideal options for you...

You can NEVER go wrong...with LAM...

P/S: Oh btw...Orchi extends a personally guarantee...that ALL of LAM's Rolexes...are GOOD!!!

I ain't watch expert, am worrying how to check and ensure the price is right.

Err buddy TKYong...many collectors like Orchi...do not wear the New Rolex...simply because they want to keep it that way...mostly for resale potential...

Some watches belong to owners that have gotten the New watches as "gifts" or as "kickbacks" from others...so whenever they want to convert them to cash...they would sell them off...!

If the watches are said to be so...they are definitely...in Unworn" new conditions...
