Help needed for an Oyster ref 4499
Hi guys, currently thinking to get this beautiful rolex but I have 0 knowledge about this reference 4499. Seller claims for it to be from 1959, Unpolished. After my research the hunter caliber is period and reference correct , case is original and has correct ref markings, Crown I'm not sure if its period correct.
My main concern however Is and I'm no expert... the dial just lacking age, It is showing some signs of patina ... if you look closely around the chapter ring you will notice. Its fishy is all I can say but Will leave it to the experts ! Sorry for the low quality images as its all I have. Thanking you in anticipation! |

Serial number is crucial.
4499 was not being produced in 1959... I'm assuming it is in the 450-550 k range...this would be in the first set of those numbers being from 47-48. The crown is wrong. It should have a 7 3/4 bubbleback style crown...smaller than the normal bubbleback. The dial is wrong...it would be for a later 710-10.5 ligne movement equipped watch or a service dial... It only has SWISS a dial from 47-48 would say SWISS MADE The movement is TOO early for either scenario as the calibre 710 from the 47-48 period would be shock resisting. This is solid mounted balance jewels. IF by some chance a 47 - 48 watch made it out withOUT shock mech on the balance...it would have a 2 screw cap jewel set up on the upper escape wheel, not like this one with the single screw from underneath which ended in around 1940. The movement is to early for the case...the crown is too late for the case...the dial is too late for either of them. |
