Jed, without saying any more than you are comfortable with, did you have any contact with Frontier beyond this public exchange?
No , not a word H ..... which in itself is odd , generally when someone gets told they’ve got a fake it takes about 30 seconds for them to come along in private and ask for the details of why , not least so they can take that info and present it to whoever sold it to them.

Of course, know the seller but It sure seems weird to buy a very expensive vintage piece without having an inspection performed first.

That's extraordinary. I wonder how the seller of the watch was convinced to refund the money, then?

There is more to this story.

As a forum member, not least one just saved by the forum from keeping a watch that had cost many, many thousands, I would feel a great onus to share more than has been.

Only now read the entire thread. I have no idea what the price of this 5517 would have been, 100 k, 150 k, 200 k or (much) more?
Anyhow, the above quote is the most surprising fact for me!

That would depend on which currency you mean.

I agree.

And of course, this watch will probably be sold (again) to some unsuspecting buyer.

Not cool.

It’s almost like it was thrown into a thread as a test.

Well in $usd, a double ref recently sold for $400k
A correct 5517 is much more desirable.

Thanks.
I asked before in #94 "....what the price of THIS 5517 would have been, 100 k, 150 k, 200 k or (much) more?" I mean the specific watch that is discussed here.

I can't believe that anybody buys a watch in this price regime (400 k$) without doing a lot of research before!

A correct full spec 5517, early this year. $240k maybe?

A most interesting thread, and one I’ve been following since a while now. OP has one of the most interesting live threads on all of TRF (another one being narembeen’s).

So many things don’t add up here. I’m not sure there’s more to come esp since Frontier has stayed rather active on TRF but silent here on this thread and there’s no way to get him to divulge more than he wants.

...and I’ll stay subscribed.

Did we ever find out the result of this watch?
I tried locating the thread but it seems to have disappeared.
What was the verdict?

If a seller had sold me a six figure watch that wasn't as described and only the help of others allowed me to recognise that, there would be no non-disclosure agreement and this would have played out very differently, with the watch at least fully exposed.

Are we confident that we really do know what happened? I could understand anyone who doubted that.

Mega-bucks watches, Amateur Hour and withheld information don't sit well together.

That's quite possible. There are some posts about why elsewhere. Perhaps you can repost what might have been lost. There's quite an eager audience.
