RG 1803, Iranian provenance

This popped up recently, nice-looking watch and set if you have deep pockets:

There is absolutely no paperwork to prove what it is claimed in the add.

Its a nice vintage DD (and I get the rose gold rarity) but without any proof of provenance....the asking price is fantasy land.

An 1803 in rose gold is more rare than the other metals but is also pretty common. I have seen quite a few for sale over the years.

I think the ebay poster just gets some weird kick about having 'the most expensive watch on ebay'...I mean, it's a decent to better DD, and it's a market I do not know, but what is that, a 10-13k watch?

Yeah, without paperwork, just a lot of hype. It's a very nice DD, but to take it into the stratosphere of this price, it would need letters and paperwork from Rolex confirming the provenance.

The listing describes a "unique" serial number. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all serial numbers unique? Isn't that the actual point of a serial number?

10-13K would be for yellow gold. Rose gold is a bit more than that. High teens with a bracelet and paperwork.

Exactly! I was so close to land myself one about 8-9 years back...the seller wanted around 6000 bucks but an older lady beat me to it...still hurts today : (

RG 1803, Iranian provenance

I have been talking to the seller and they claim wholeheartedly that Geneva told Beverly Hills that the story is true but they said there is no letter from Geneva, no service paperwork and no articles or anything stating that this piece or any of the other 50 claimed pieces have this provenance

Its words, they’re worth nothing.

Also, I doubt that Rolex Geneva would tell such stories. We know how hard it is to get any info from them....

Anyway, without any paperwork (even it the story is true) the watch is just vintage DD that should be price according to its condition.

Also, the watch is not a piece that the Shah wore.

His claim is that all 50 were in the very low 3.6 million serial range and they are trying to get a letter from Geneva to prove the story.

Ill believe any of it when I see it. I told the guy if he gets any kind of documentation at all other than a verbal story then the watch needs to go to Phillips of Christys instead of eBay.

Strange I never saw them before and now two in two days: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/393019842520?ul_noapp=true

The first one is a bit OTT, I agree. Nice watch though

Even if they get confirmation of this story from Rolex, I have doubts about the value. It's supposedly one of 50 given as a gift by the Shah of Iran, who is not a particularly appealing or timely figure.

Story states the Shaw never wore it but had them commissioned to present as gifts to his generals. That part is in the description.

To be fair the seller does not say ”1803 was never produced in RG” but "The plastic glass original 36 Series were never made in SOLID ROSE GOLD by ROLEX" and the serial in this case is 3600966.

However, of course I don't know if this is true or not.

Guys,
I had in my hand a She of Persia Day Date, on the casebook it had the engraving of the roya seal and the name of the man that was gifted by the Shan.
Regarding the Rose Gold 1803 Rolex produce many, I am not sure why someone says it never been produced.
