Been active on here as of late....but narrowing it down. Love the feedback and insig

So I have been going nuts trying to figure my next watch move. I have been consolidating my pieces from quantity to quality (I like a small collection). This watch I want to serve as a dress up/down heavy hitter watch. Im going platinum or WG because most people do not know what im wearing unless “you know”. Yellow gold stands out too much in the crowd and its why I traded in my gold sub. My wife of course likes the diamond choice. I agree, but I do not know how this watch will fair as a jeans and t shirt watch. I would love any personal experience with these choices. Please note, none of these pics are mine and I snagged them off somewhere in the forum. I just think these pics give the watch a good representation.

Anyone feel that the diamond version is too flashy when dressed down?

Platinum with brilliants ( That's how Rolex used to refer to their diamond dials years ago) The Glacier Blue is icing on the cake.

I seem to be in the minority here, but my preference is exactly the order pictured: 1, 2, 3.

Your concern about the diamond dial being a good jeans and t-shirt watch is warranted. I think the WG Roman Dial is the ultimate Dress Up or Down watch and is incredibly underrated. I also love the Platinum dial, but I don't believe the extra money is worth it.

Motif is my clear choice of the listed. I also love the quadrant Roman dial (easily my favorite)

The smooth bezel is easier to dress down.

The fluted bezel adds too much sparkle for a dress down.

As such, my choice would be 2.

A proper ‘formal’ platinum Rolex DD, and a nice dressdown watch without bling.

1 or 2 - tough choice. 2 is an icon, but tough to beat the blue in 1.

Go Platinum!!! #2 or #3 all day, it’s just a matter of your personal preference. Personally I prefer the traditional dial over the motif but that’s just me. Best of luck in your decision and make sure you post lots of incoming pics!

Still number 2 for me.

Like diamonds on the Platona but not on the Day Date.

For me personally, the blue dial one goes with any attire or occasion. I wear it with shorts, t-shirts, jeans, business casual or formal.

Same here, I'd choose #1 as well. The blue dial and applied romans are a strong combination that works dressed up or down.

Thoughts on all 3:

1) I love it! BUT, and it's a big but, they make that blue dial across the entire line so it's not going to feel that 'special'. A WG DD isn't a heavy hitter. It's a nice watch, it's more expensive than most other Rolexes but I wouldn't consider it a heavy hitter.

2 & 3) Equally impressive, the icey blue dials are amazing. I think jaws will drop on #2 but panties go down with #3. Not sure that I wanted lume on a DD. Somehow it doesn't appeal to me.

My vote goes for #3

I understand your view with the blue. It can be on a wg or plat metal and does not have that distinct identity like an icd blue dial. I disagree with the heavy hitter view. I believe any PM is heavy hitter.

I like 3 a lot... just torn with it being too much if I use it with jeans/sweatpants. This would account for 75% of the times it will be worn. Its one of those things that I can be completely wrong and this watch looks great dressed down. Its why i lean towards 2 more. My wife does not like the motif design, but doesn’t hate the watch.

Eh...I think you're going down the wrong path here, TBH. The DD40 is not a 75% jeans/sweatpants watch. It just isn't. Yes, you can literally wear it with anything, and several of us do just that, but, it's just not as at home with that look as the so-called 'sports watch.' IMO, of course.

That's not to say it's not a fantastic watch. It is. I own the WG version-not the blue dial, however. (And in what universe exactly is a 30k watch not a heavy hitter? ) Again, being honest here, I don't wear it as much as my sports watches. For this reason, it would probably be the first to go if I started to consolidate.

At this point it feels to me like you're forcing the issue. You've got a sub and a WG BLRO. Breathe, take some time, and let yourself fall in love with your next watch. If I've learned nothing else from my time on this forum and collecting watches, that is the only reason to buy a watch.

You'll know when you know.

you'll be good. the baguettes aren't as flashy as diamond markers. they're a lot more subtle and flashy only when they need to be (under certain lighting). seriously if that's the one you like the most don't talk yourself out of it, i highly doubt you'll regret it. at the end of the day it's plat so it dresses down easier than yellow gold for example, so the dial won't affect much, but even yg day dates go with shorts

Mine as well. The other choices may wash out in certain light. This one pops.

The platinum, ice blue, cross hatched with sticks. No other even comes close.

At first I thought it was #3 for me but after studying a little more I think #2 with the crass hatched dial. #1 with the Romans is out for sure. The Baguettes on #3 are a little too much and so I give it to #2 by a nose.

I agree with you. I do have to admit that I changed directions with my watches. I first started and experienced a lot of different rolex sport models. I got hooked into PM. Always had an eye on the plat DD. The smooth bezel makes it not as dressy like the WG version imo. I like the diamonds, but did not know how it looks in the flesh when wearing it down. This will be my dress watch in my lineup, but wanted the watch to be versatile so it will not just be a expensive watch sitting in the box. At the end of the day I will go what I like, but its always good to hear other views especially from someone with wear time. Watches are tough because you think its a great watch and sometimes after owning it.... you just dont have the connection you think you would have.
