An excellent choice, and not a starter Patek by any means. I was my first Patek too. I exchanged it after several months for the same model with a yellow gold bracelet; a personal thing with a love for gold. My second Patek was the 5980-1R with rose band. Best of luck with yours; wearing mine on Christmas morning....

Thanks for the info. I was also checked the price in Australia last week when I was there. The price in Australia is A$54,800 incl GST which is cheaper than Thailand (able to get GST refund for another 9%). All ADs in Sydney don't have any 5146G or 5146R in their stock.

Tried on some 5146 variants today and re-fell in love with it. Wasn’t ready to pull the trigger a few years ago but somewhat in a better position now...love the rose gold/cream dial and the yellow gold/slate dial references. As someone mentioned here before, honestly one of the best bang for your buck in the entire PP line up. I need to add one!!!

Congrats. I have the 5146R but I liked the White gold also. Took me nearly a year to make my final decision. Enjoy your watch.

You definitely got it right, 5146 is a classic and beautiful reference. You will love it more and more, it grows on you.
When I thought of buying mine I said I’ll wear it as the classical watch on a suit or blazer and wear my 5712 for the sports and casual look, also since I got it I changed the strap to a customized strap- so it looks more sporty- and since then and until today I only wear it everyday day and night. I love it. Biiiiig congrats and enjoy it in good health.

5146G for my first Patek Philippe?

Unfortunately any Annual Calendar in the market are dogs. So I didn’t like the idea of having a watch that depreciates so much but I like it very much at the same time. A struggle. 5396 is the dressiest of all the Anual calendars but I like the power reserve and the luminous hands/markers than the night/day indicator that the 5396 brings. I like the subdials better that the central windows for the calendar. But I can also see the cleanness of the 5396 so it brings its coolness as well. I like both, I think is just personal preference. Gents, thanks to all once again. I was absent for a little while and just back from my vacation. I wear the watch more than 50%. I really like the lume.

The 5146 holds its value pretty well in the scheme of things, just not when compared with certain grand complications or steel sports. |

My 5146R is my grail... The 5146G is a real beaut! Do you notice any desk diving marks on the clasp? That is a concern going to a PM piece.

I did mine with crocodile leather at the bottom (under) the strap as it has groves and doesn’t make your rest sweat in hot weather. NB: the stitches color in the pic is different than the original, the original is the same color of the dial.... I love it

I've been eyeing the 5146 reference for a few years. Have been itching to add a PP to the collection, but just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Congrats on a gorgeous reference. It's most likely the one I'll settle on if i find the right one at the right price.

This is a really nice watch!
Watchfinders UK say a lot of nice things about it on YouTube, in comparison with other makes of similar function and design. |

Great watch, real Patek DNA to it and a lovely shape. Very similar to a 2526.

This is my first Patek from 2 years ago! I bought it for the exact same reasons you listed out. Still enjoying it whenever I put it on. A classic useful complication.
I have added the 5524G and 5711 after but the 5146G always have a special place in the rotation! |

I think this watch fits your line up well as the rest are sporty watches so having a dress watch fits well into your collection. As others have point out, resale for Patek Annual calendar isn't that great. Still it is a lot better than other brands. If you don't plan to flip it, then this shouldn't matter.

I would say maybe 5% or 10% max. I'm in the same boat: just been offered a 5726A but I also really like the 5146J a lot as a dress watch and a first patek (probably more so than the 5726A). But with the 5726A, it's a watch with little downside if I decide I don't want to keep it after a couple of years, or have a shot at the new 5726 blue dial in a couple of years. If you're saying a 5146G or J would be worth $24K used, then I would be looking at losing closer to $12k or $13k, not $6k. |
