I passed on this in June when i picked up a 5164a travel time. The 5990 is very nice with the integrated pushers on the left side of the case, but i couldn't get over the date subdial at the top. If they placed the Patek Philippe naming at 12 and put a date window inside the chrono sub dial i think it would be a top watch. But nevertheless, congrats on picking up this if it's your first nautilus

I think the date sub-dial at the top balances the chrono sub-dial below. I quite like the symmetry.

Well i've never seen one unsealed so maybe i would have a different view if my AD cut the seal and brought it out for me. I wasn't a big fan of the reference from what i could see so i didn't want to ask. The dial looks overcrowded imho but everyone has their own view.

I like the symmetrical position of the dial as well. The travel time is very useful for me since I travel often. In Nautilus line, 5990 is the only watch where the PP naming is below the 9-3 hour mark. I find this special.

Fantastic family jewellers, which branch did you secure the watch from?

Are you in the north?

Enjoy and wear the heck out of it.

This was exactly the intention, as described here (1:52):

Recently picked this up and love the watch. The name position doesn’t bother me to be honest since the overall design of the watch speaks to its quality I.e. no need to read the dial to see who made it. ;)

I think it will be too thick under a suit/tux.

Works under a short no problem (I wear mine to work) although it’s not something I’d ever wear with a tuxedo.
