Gmt and ocd

Hi all,

Has anyone got a gmt and ocd?

Been trying a few on but every time I try and set it to the 2nd time zone function is freaks my ocd out that everything isn’t straight and aligned.

Anyone else got this or am I just weird?

Aligned with what? Once set correctly the GMT hand is aligned correctly with the timezone it is set to indicate.

The hands on any watch only align twice a day. Why does the extra GMT hand change that?

Is this simply a fun post or are you saying the GMT hand not lining up would deter you from buying a GMT? My 16710 can look a little cluttered when all the hands seem to be jostling for space but it doesn’t bother me one bit. OCD is an overused phrase...get over it or buy an OP.

If you like the GMT buy one and have the GMT hand taken off. Non existent problem solved, either that or buy a OP.

Surely if you want everything straight and aligned then no watch is for you as the hands are fluid

It's obviously not the watch for you.

Maybe you need to look at something like a MeisterSinger instead.

what is it that you feel should be straight and aligned ?
If you are sufficiently freaked out by something like this to post about it, it is indeed very much you.
Sorry.

That's what a GMT does. it doesn't bother me, and in fact, I like them. If it bothers you, then there are plenty of other choices. We all have our likes and dislikes, and that's ok. Don't let the others get you down, buy/wear what you like.

Wow,

Nice guys! Some of the responses were a little harsh. OCD is a complicated issue that I am thrilled most of the responders don't have.

I am also guessing that the issue is the triangle not located at the top or 12 o'clock position.

As someone with "mild" OCD, I can tell you that it did bother me a little at first. However, I use the second and third time function of mine on a daily basis and use it as a tool.

If the extra hour hand is the issue and you don't need the extra time zone support but like the watch you could always set the 24 hour hand like the Explorer. I have never done that but it would always be telling the same hour just 12 hours different. AM and PM at the same time.

Good luck!

Yes it is having the bezel not lined up that doesn’t suit my eye, especially as the colours then won’t be at the top and bottom.

I don’t think it will stop me but I wanted to see if people felt the same and had dealt with it.

Thanks for the more productive comments

I thought moving the bezel was only for tracking a third time zone?

I believe if you use the watch as a tool and actually track multiple time zones, it won't bother you as much. It doesn't me.

i rarely use the rotatable bezel. I just set the GMT hand to a second time zone or keep it on local time and change the main hour hand when i travel. If the bezel was fixed i probably wouldn't even notice.

That is one of the ways to use it. I however change multiple time zones per day and prefer to have the 24 Hour hand always set to GMT with the triangle on top. As I change time zones, I rotate the bezel and use the 24 Hour hand as the new local. It is easier than taking off the watch and changing the hour with the crown.

"Mildly" OCD here. Okay, I'll admit it.

Not sure I understand the question, but if it is about the triangle at the top of the bezel, then here's what I do. I'll purposefully turn mine from time to time to another direction, which gives me a different splash of colors than the original orientation. I will try to focus on the colors during this period, not the triangle.

I'll (somewhat) enjoy this change of scenery for a while, and then turn it back, and then get an instant surge of relief. Problem solved.

haha glad I'm not alone then, well I'm hoping to pick one up this weekend so will play around and set if I can get my eye used to it. If not then I guess I don't have to use the rotting bezel :)

It seems that Rolex related OCD is more common than worn rotor axles. I might have gotten into the wrong business
