New Guy - Found a Rolex, Need Help Getting it Fixed Up

Hi everyone. About a year ago I parked in the grass outside of my airplane hangar where I had been parking for 15+ years. Inside a shred of a car tire buried just under the surface of the ground (probably left over from a pre-construction blasting mat) I saw something metal. I reached down, pulled it out and BAM ... this Rolex watch!!

I'm not really a watch guy. I threw it in the center console of my truck where it has lived it's life for the past year or so. My wife just got me one of the 'big brother' Google watches that will supposedly do everything, even count heartbeats - whatever, I'll try it. But of course the band didn't fit so I needed to buy a tool kit to pull some links out.

And so ... I grabbed the Rolex out to see if I can use my $15, Amazon-purchased tool kit to get the Rolex going. It doesn't look like the spanner wrench in the tool kit is going to get the back off. And the band is about 1 or 2 links shy of fitting my wrist.

Any suggestions on getting started here would be appreciated. I'm inclined to bring it to a watch repair shop to get it cleaned up and back in presentable order. But I have no idea where a reputable repair shop might be near me and what that will cost. Again, I'm not a watch guy but I would be willing to spend a few bucks on a free Rolex

Thanks for any help. I look forward to you all making a watch guy out of me after all!!

That bezel doesn’t seem to match any Sub I’ve ever seen.

Well that's good to know!! Glad I got on the forum and posted about it before trying to get an expensive repair done.

What is the giveaway? Just curious before I (literally) throw it in the garbage can

Yeah - the bezel is way off. It's a 24 hour GMT-style bezel. The dial markers are too small. Crystal is wrong. Dial lettering is way off. The back case is way off - not a Rolex, for sure.

at least the "2's" on the gmt bezel are not as hooked as typical fakes lolol

To fix this watch you will need one hammer and a a trash can. Please!.... Get rid of it. Its an embarasing and pathetic fake.
