Missing Rolex 16800

Guys, I need your help on this one.

I sent my Rolex Submariner 16800 to Mr. Calvin Yeung yesterday afternoon via Fedex. It arrived its destination with the following details on their website

Tracking number
xxxx-xxxx-xxxx
Signed for by
M.R YUNG
Ship date
Mar 14, 2008
Delivery date
Mar 15, 2008 10:13 AM
Reference
xxxxxx
Destination
HO MAN TIN KOWLOON HK
Delivered to
Residence
Service type
Priority Box
Weight
1.0 kgs.

However, I've been sending e-mails for confirmation and tried calling recipients mobile but no one answers. Now, I get an e-mail 10 minutes ago (nine hours after the package was delivered) from the supposed recipient claiming that

"An empty box, 1lb, was opened with a Fedex guy."

I am flabbergasted.

What do I do?

I called up Fedex and they say that the recipient claimed, upon receiving the box, that the contents (so there was something inside) were damaged. Fedex told me that they were going to give me an update tomorrow and that they are investigating.

Direly needs help.

Up to this time, Fedex is still conducting their investigation. They still maintain that recipient, Mr. Yeung, received and signed the package, opened it and claimed that its contents was damaged.

I really do not understand on how to go about it. Fedex tried calling recipient's number but voice only answered.

I get an e-mail from the supposed recipient this afternoon asking for the serial number. His complete e-mail was "What s/n is it?"

I am a very transparent and pragmatic person so I do not want to accuse before getting all the information right and complete, thus, the open-ended title of the thread without any accusation.

I hope I do get to resolve this with the recipient.

What do you guys suggest.

Sorry about the predicament that you are in.

Fedex is not a good shipper to use for watches due to their limited coverage for watches. I hope you have jewellry insurance.

Personally, not unless you've personally dealth with a buyer MANY times, I wouldn't send anything without receiving payment first.

Hope the resolution turns out positive.

If this guy came so highly recommended by the other places I hope you post the problem there so someone who vouched for him maybe can help you out.

Good Luck and I hope you have a successful outcome.

Sorry to hear about your situation.

The 9 hour delay before contacting you seems far too long. If there was a problem with the absence of a $10,000 item then the reaction would be immediate.

The change of story from damage to absent is also very suspicious.

These types of things happen, unfortunately. I hope that you can get some sort of partial compensation from the couriers.

The serial number for the watch should be reported as stolen.

I'm sorry but you were taken. Never under any circumstance are you suppose to send your item before you receive payment for it. I don't care how many references a person has, once you send your item without receiving payment you basically are giving the receiver a free item. It looks like the supposed buyer had a plan to bilk you out of your watch from the get go. He will basically state there was nothing in the box he received, while in reality he got your watch. I don't know how people live with themselves by partaking in such lowlife activities. But, if Fedex is still investigating then I will hope for the best for you and I truly hope my assessment is DEAD wrong.

There are very few people whom I would trust enough to ship an expensive watch prior to receiving payment. Once, without requesting him to do so, a gentleman from Alaska shipped an IWC Portuguese to me before my wire even went through! I appreciated it, but I've personally never done such a thing in my life.

If this buyer really does have great feedback, then I smell something afoul with FedEx, especially if you correctly listed all of the contents on the declaration form --it's a "steal me" sign.

On second thought, I doubt that a good, trustworthy buyer would ask for you to ship the watch before he even pays.

wowww. very sorry to hear about it. so bad that there are dishonest people in this world who can do such a dirty tricks!!! u're sending him a watch and instead thanking you and paying you he claims empty box!!!
On other hand could it be stolen by fedex???
I had once a situation that I never recieved item form Australia, it was lost sometime in LA and never came to me.
I hope your situation will resolve soon and you will get either your watch back or the money!!!!

fedex delivery personnel will not stand there while you open the package. they deliver and they are gone, no if's and's or but's. if he told you the fedex delivery person waited for him to open the package he isn't telling you the truth. if he went to the fedex pickup point he could have opened it there but if there were other people in line they would have made him move from the counter area to open it so they still wouldn't have been watching him.

i hope this is sorted out for you in a positive manor.

Hong Kong is not that far from Manila. Why don't you go there along with Police and get the guy arrested since you have his address? I wouln't mind spending a grand for plane ticket rather than loosing a ten thousand dollar watch!
