How many turns of the crown to lock it?

I have owned a 25-y-o DJ for 2 years. It runs and keeps time flawlessly. However, my concern has to do with the crown tube threads. When I turn to close the crown, it catches the threads and takes only 3/4 of a turn before it locks down (closes). Is this the normal amount of turns? It hasn't gotten worse over my ownership. Thanks.

It should have at least 2 1/2 turns plus. Rikki

It sounds like you need to replace your crown and tube. Sent it down to Rikki at Timecare. Not only is he a great watchmaker but also has a Rolex parts account.

Oh wow, 2 1/2 turns plus? Guess I'm on borrowed time. I put the dreaded loupe to the threads and they do look rather smoothed over.

You might want to stay away from the Mariana Trench until you get it checked out.
