Let it be. I just purchased a BLNR and promptly removed all of the protection plastics. I believe in using something for what it is intended to do. Daily wear and tear included.

I'd fix it at RSC, only because it is on the bezel and I would see it everytime I checked the time...

Dog Bites and other related experiences

I have rescued about 12 dogs and possibly as many as 15 cats in my lifetime.

I am, through an autoimmune disease, fairly well crippled now, and can no longer take care of such wonderful beings. I miss each and every one of them, but I found the vast majority of them good homes. I always, however, found them better homes than I could provide at the time.

I did not own fine time pieces during the time that I helped these creatures ( I did own two Breitlings - Hah!). Some of the beings ate my bedding, furniture and shoes, but none of them ate my watch because there wasn't one to be eaten or chewed.

I have a few Rolex now, generally new and shiny. I also own a perfect 1904 Patek Philippe pocket watch presented, September 1, 1904, to my paternal grandfather who died 11 years before I was born.

As many are, I am afraid to scratch them when new, or when well preserved and shiny.

I realized that if perfection is one's standard, one could never ever wear their watch.

What good is that?

If I owned the OP's watch in its "bitten" condition, I would not repair it. Furthermore, when service time came, I would request that the entire watch head, possibly the bracelet as well, NOT be polished. I do not know if RSC would honor my request - likely not.

If I could have a Rolex that I adored with "bite marks" and other dings, scrapes and scratches from MY life of 60 years, I would be entirely satisfied.

OP - If you don't like the bite on your Rolex, I might buy it at the right price . . .

Peace

Keep the scratches
Something else will happen one day but those battle scars will always remind you of your dog.

If you wear a watch for any significant amount of time, its going to get scratches. And, mostly likely worse than this during the course of its life. Regardless of how you feel about your animals and remembering them, I say just enjoy it. Its just a watch and a beautiful one at that!

EDITED to add... I love beagles!

What does everyone suggest?

Following up on this funny old storry...

OP, did you get it refinished in the end?

Had it been ceramic it would have been chipped or shattered.

A dog bite would definitely be character in my book. I’d leave it.

In years to come, that scratch will bring a smile to your face and a tear to your eye. Leave it the ____ alone.

How about just having the scratches on the raised markers fixed up a bit..?? The others don't seem to noticeable and you still have the story and character.

Oops.. Just noticed the date of op. Also curious though what was done. :cheers"

Getting a scratch by a loved dog is much easier to take than an absent minded bash against a door latch.

joroz001,

Why wasn't your watched secured in a safe place! We have all heard this story too many times over!!! Starting from elementary school: One of your mates would say: My dog ate my homework (and everyone knew that he didn't do his homework), then it was my dog pooped in front of the door etc., etc., etc., Now, I could accept this if you had an Airedale Terrier (believe me I'm an Airedale guy and they are certainly in a class by theirselves!), but what is that.....? A 13 inch Beagle? Is somebody trying to frame this little guy here! Naaah, your dog is your best friend, your buddy. In the absence of any documentary evidence clearly demonstrating that your dog was fully responsible, don't make him take the blame! Shame on you!

Not like its gonna get any worse if you leave it as is for awhile. Leave it and see if you can live with it for a few months.. if you can, then just leave it until service.
