I originally expressed my interest for the non diamond dial and quickly changed that, can’t wait to join this club. I don’t like flash but it’s just enough that it’s still timeless yet subtle. Beautiful watch

Thank you guys, I agree: the diamonds on this dial are really subtle and the watch flies under the radar, if you don't know what it is you'd think it's just another SS watch. I love that!

Most who buy and wear watches haven't even a clue as to what comprises a watch's material. They see either silver colored or gold colored and nothing more. Congratulations again!!!

AD called today - it has arrived - and well, I got there PDQ.
This has taken about a year and it is the first Pt I've seen in the metal. Any concerns whether it would carry enough 'wow' over the steel or gold versions were quickly dismissed.
Quick in-store photo for now. Collect on Thursday, oh just 2 more sleeps....

Basically it looks like a SS watch, but you pay a hefty premium. By the way, price of platinum is about $1K per ounce (almost twice cheaper than gold). My guess is that it will be available at MSRP or even lower. The hype is all about SS watches. Sorry, I am neither an owner, nor a wannabe.

Logical?? ....in this hobby?
Nothing logical about wanting/owning a high $$$$$$ something that your phone will do, or a $50 Timex. But then again, there’s tons of hobbies that fall under the same logic or....illogic.
There’s tons of threads on here on PT cost vs gold or SS. With this, or jewelry, there’s no trying to rationalize the raw material cost vs the finished product cost.
Personal choices....that’s all I can say... vs going into a 3 page dissertation.

Well said. In my experience, people either get why some prefer white precious metals or they don't get it. and no amount of explaining or dissertation seems to help them understand. no big deal.

Should have bought one 4 years ago when you could get one for 15% off MSRP

Holy cow!!
My good friend just sent me the link to y'all with Platona, and what a thread this is!

My wife had lusted for the 116506 for so long, and when her Tesla stock hit the mark a few months ago, she looked at me and said . . . "You know? If I sell this stock that cost me $5K, I could just buy that Platona for cash!" I laughed and suggested that she could buy another rental property, as well. Unfortunately, she wasn't kidding....

A call to our favorite AD (Fourtané, in Carmel, CA), and we're asked if we'd prefer the diamond dial or the standard dial, and my honey says, .. "diamonds???" In the next minute, she decisively requests the standard, because it has the brown sundial outlines, which they've taken off the diamond variant! She LOVES that brown theme from the bezel to the sundials, set off by the ice-blue!

Now, she's sporting this baby, and having a ball with different straps! What a treat! And one of her best friends keeps saying, "That's not very pretty, you know. It's way too masculine!". My wife just smiles, . . . . no response necessary!

I'm a lucky guy, to be sure.

Congrats to you for getting your heart's desire! Wear it in good health, Sir!

"Logical"??

Ba-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!!
(Oh, my goodness!! I can't see straight - I'm laughing so hard!!)

And, my friend "ce027772" . . . what's so funny is that you asked a perfectly logical question!!
It's something that anyone who was trying to understand the rules of the playground would ask. But, there's absolutely NO good answer.

Just wait 'till you start looking at Vintage Rolex! Oy, vay!!!
Compare the price of an original 2003 green bezel sub (16610LV) to the price of one from 2 years later (2005 or later). The ONLY difference in the earlier (F serials) is the "Flat 4" with a serif font, on the bezel insert number "40" (and some would say the Bertoli color of the insert).
The current difference in the sales price is about $8-10K ($16K vs ~$24K for clean examples).
So what's logical about that??
Not a damn thing.

So, . . . . I'm not laughing at YOU, but rather at this wonderful and crazy world in which we've all chosen to live. It's whimsical, demand driven, and really entertaining, too.
Be careful, and keep having fun, learning about all things Rolex. This is a terrific group here on TRF, to be sure!

Congratulation to your wife; on a strap you should be able to wrestle it away from her on occasion!!!

MSRP is justified by it being a luxury watch made of the most difficult to work with precious metal!!! Its value has definitely gone up in the last couple of years since I purchased mine with blood!!!
