New Sub vs preowned

I've been looking into buying a preowned 116610 and was quite surprised to see where 5-10 year old models are selling at or usually above retail ($9150 us).

Given than new Subs are in short supply, I guess this is why preowned prices have gone way up. Granted I can take a preowned home today, but I'm wondering if its better to go on a wait-list for a new Sub?

Opinions and suggestions appreciated.

I was in your shoes not long ago. I opted for waiting on a Sub Date AD delivery, but I expressed my interest back in August before the new release. I am still hopeful I might receive this year, but am not counting on it. I am okay waiting. If I was eager, I would have no problem buying a preowned and paying the price if the watch was worthy. It all depends on your timeline.

Good luck!

Welcome.

I’d wait, buy from AD.

Try new from AD, there has been a few coming through so you might be lucky, if you get fed up waiting for x amount of time then maybe go preowned.

Thanks for the replies and advise.

Just to add...I went the preowned route in 2014 and bought a preowned Sub, only to sell it 3 years later. Dumb move on my part.

Buying preowned from a Trusted Dealer can have you the watch asap. You pay for the premium but you don't play AD games.

I’ve purchased my first sub on the grey ($1K over retail, brand new watch), I’ve worn it for 2 months and sold it with $100 loss after I got the call from my AD.

I'd speak to an AD to register your interest. I practically harassed my AD for a 116610 for a year, then they surprised me with the new Sub. So you never know.

Don't you have to buy a few items from the AD before you have a realistic shot at the waitlist? Rather than doing that, I'd rather pay a few $ extra in grey and get the watch now. Nothing with that IMO. Supply and demand.

I'd put the order in for a new Sub and wait. You'll get it.

Bought mine presented from tourneau online. No games and had it the next business day.

Not all subs are equal. Buy what you want, not what's most easily available.

Find an old Sub and send it to Rolex for an overhaul. It will be brand new.
