The big 4-0. Double grail incoming...

So I turned 40 yesterday and was exceptionally lucky to celebrate by adding two of my final 3 grains. I’ve been waiting to get these pieces for some time and both came at retail, which was a lovely result.

Appropriate to this sub-forum is the beautiful 5164, which I’ve craved for years but for so long could never get my head around the premium over a 5167, to add a travel time complication. However, as the years passed I realised I loved the look of the 64, with its more busy dial and extra heft in the case just so much more that a 67 would never be right for me. I have to say that having now spent a few hours with the watch I know 110% my instincts were correct and I am just so delighted with this piece.

To see my other incoming grail, I’ll need to redirect you to another sub-forum, so I’ll leave you with a quick shot of the Aquanaut and will no doubt follow up with some more detailed thoughts in due course...

Please excuse the slightly ill-fitting replica blue strap, I wanted to practice before starting surgery on the very expensive Patek rubber.

For info on my other 40th birthday grail incoming, follow the link...

Congrats! I too turned 40 recently and had ore-bought a 5164 to celebrate. These little things bring a lot of joy. Enjoy!

Congrats. I agree with the 5164 choice over 5167.... Wonderful complication, beautiful balance, and wears very nicely. Happy birthday.

Congratulations! The 5164 is my favorite PP, alongside the 5990. Enjoy it - looks just as great on you as that other grail of yours.

Cheers
Marc

Sure, it was off eBay and I’ll provide a link to the supplier (UK based) but I suspect it’s the same strap sold worldwide. It doesn’t fit perfectly because it’s meant for a 5167, but it does the job. It does have the little case pins.

Congrats mate, that is a wonderful pair of incomings! I was the same with the 64 and paused in buying it for years because of the steep premium over the 67 but when prices started to move on them I got in and managed to pick one up below retail.

Lucky guy. I turned 40 last year but couldn’t get the watch I wanted... not at 41 either. Ho hum.

Enjoy them in good health and congratulations. Beautiful watches.
