Icon6 Letgo Rolex 1016

Greetings all!
Earlier today I was looking through the app Letgo and found what appears to be a ref. 1016 for only $1000. Knowing that price is far below market value I figured it would be a counterfit. Still intrigued, I asked for a few more photos and he gladly sent over the images posted below. What he told me was that the watch dated to 1985 and that his grandfather gave it to him because, “No one wears watches anymore”. So I suppose I have two questions. First, do you guys/gals think it’s real. And second, what things should I ask him? I’ve agreed to meet with him tomorrow morning to check out the watch. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!😁

Even if the watch would be real, that‘s how stories like‘ Rolex confiscated my watch because it was stolen‘ begin

Anyone selling below market value, and bringing their grandfather into the equation....

Meet at the jewelers so they can take the back off.

I just asked if he would be willing to meet at my local AD. He agreed. I truly think the guy is just unaware of what he’s selling.

He’ll also know that you’re walking round with a $1000 in your pocket. Take a couple of mates with you.

If it’s real do you really want to live the rest of your life knowing you took advantage of someone?

That's A Good Point.... Lots of scammers out there looking to take advantage of ignorant buyers, and this could end up being the buyer taking advantage.

I would say, if you meet at the AD and it IS Genuine, offer a "Fair" price and everyone wins.

So here’s what I was able to gather from my visit to the AD. The watch is in fact real, and the serial number dates it to 1985. They did take it back and opened the case back along with running the serial number and to the best of my knowledge everything checked out. I told him that it’s worth more than what he had it listed for and that the best I would be able to offer would be $2000. I’m only 21 and work at a pizzeria so I don’t have a ton of money to work with. I had also been saving up to buy a 114200 and that was all I had saved in my watch fund. The guy told me that the $1000 was good enough for him, and said, “Wear it in good health”. So as of right now I’m sitting in my car shaking, unsure of what just happened, and convinced something is still wrong with this watch.

Congratulations!

The seller's happy and you're happy and the watch checks out.

I'm going to guess that the seller, not having anything invested in the watch, didn't mind letting the watch go to a young man who's honest and has such good taste.

Thank you everyone for the kind words and help through this process! I never would have imagined things would turn out the way they did. Unfortunately I can’t post a photo to this thread directly, but if you’d like to check out the watch I posted a photo to my Instagram.

Get it pressure tested, and wear the heck out of it. Also, your inbox is likely blowing up at this point from people wanting to buy it. DONT SELL EVER. Keep it, enjoy it, make your own memories with it.

Interesting, I don’t agree with the buyer taking advantage of the seller. I’m in Las Vegas and most of the watch buyers here have the most ridiculous low ball offers you ever imagine. 400$ for a 5 digit datejust. Smh however it was very noble to offer 2000. Surprise he didn’t accept it. Maybe he had some issues with his grandpa or something or felt he didn’t want his gpa to be disappointed or something to that effect. I have had no luck with letgo thus far. However I got a pretty good lead on a 1975 ouster date with diamond bezel. Around 1500.

How much is a 1016 Explorer typically worth? I see a pretty big range in the eBay sold ones.

At least $10K. This one looks in good condition so I would say well above $10K
