I'll do an update and tell the full story as soon as the deal is done. Thank you again everyone.

What an amazing barn find. That is a serious watch with most of the right pieces available to make it quite valuable, once it is put back together. I am sure you are getting some insane offers and will do very well at the end of the day. I hope we get to see the final product and it's final fetching price!

And as I look at the OP's pictures again I don't know if anyone else noticed but that balance wheel looks brand spanking new compared to the other parts of the movement.

Luminocity

That model must be pretty impressive when all 48 pieces of (tritium?) are glowing in the dark.

Does anyone have a pic of that?

I'l repeat it here again, since there are two identical threads on here:

If that is a radium dial, I really really really hope you were wearing a mask and didn't touch anything in that container. No, I'm not kidding...

If anyone in the EU who needs to dispose of their Radium monsters wants to pass them along to me I will be happy to oblige. Wouldn't it be better than having them collected up and put into cement caskets and buried at sea.

Wouldn't the radium be completely decayed after all this time?

Interesting point made. I googled it and seems that radium's half life is 1600 years!

Where in Texas are you located? Unfortunately not a ton of local competent vintage watch restorers here.

If you're not interested in tackling the project, shoot me a PM. I'd like to know what you got it for and where the auction was.

Sorry - missed a page and the fact you said it's sold. Think you should've kept it and tried to at least assess the actual condition/cost to restore and tried to tackle the project. You'll never have that chance again, guaranteed.

Didn't expect that,
Much longer than tritium.

That said I believe the greatest harm is if breathed or ingested.

Well folks, the deal is done. I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. I think both parties left happy. I think everyone will be happy to hear that the new owner is going to fix it up and wear it. When I get home I'm going to type up the story here with pictures of where I got this.

Thank you again for all the help and comments. This is a hell of a forum and the members make the forum. I think I'm going to stick around this place, I even already had Rolex before this other find. I just didn't know this was here until I was researching my find.
