Guys, first post and a quick submariner question.

Have been offered one in a trade which has original instruction booklets circa 1982/83 and a rolex box from the same year which I think is for a datejust and not the submariner, needless to say there is no papers.

The watch strap is the genuine article by the looks of things and has the correct markings although it is a bit stretched at the link that joins to the face.

My question is should the bezel rotate on all submariner models?

I think it may just be in need of a service, the rubber gasket on the triplock is perished and there looks like there's possibly some condensation and dust on the face. Popped the strap and the model number hits up for the right watch and the serial looks clean.

If you mean condensation on the dial, I would be careful.

not sure what the trade is for, or what value you are giving up but you need to be fearful of "Great Deals" and the condition issue. I would steer clear unless you can have it authenticated by a third party and an evaluation of it's condition.

A service will cost you £430.
Unless its a really good deal I would get one that has been looked after much better.

Had someone take a look at it and its the genuine article, just needing a complete overhaul. Still keeps time beatifully though. Value wise potentially looking at around the £3k mark in terms of the trade so on the cheap side for a bimetallic sub but not the bargain of the century, he's interested in my Breitling Skyland Avenger which is in 9/10 condition and 4 years old with box and papers. The person that's offered it has a few Rolex's dating from that time period up to now but the Sub is the only one im interested in.
