Anyone struggling between Patek and Rolex?

I’ve never owned a Patek.
I tried some models earlier, but this was the first one that truly did something to me:

Stunning&interesting watch—not ”the hottest Patek to have”, but I love it. Also the history behind this Patek is not as deep as many other models...
Also tried this one:

White gold Daytona. No explanations needed.
Thinking Patek feels like I am cheating Rolex....
Anyone else having this kind of strange struggle?
What is the horological truth to you if thinking these two watches?

That Patek does nothing to me, if it was a Nautilus then its a different story.
I would grab that Daytona in a instant, it’s the most versatile Daytona out there and it’s also the ‘hottest’.

Watches and cars and so many other things are more about service than anything else. And Patek after-sales service could not be any worse. RSC, as far as I am concerned and based in a hefty experience, is excellent. Been there, done that.

I rather like that PP.

They are nice in general but I've never been torn with the PP vs Rolex. They're totally different to compare with the exception of some Cellini models. The sports models of each are also too different.

PP vs AP vs VC - yes. Absolutely. Those 3 are the grailers of Swiss watches.

Now throw in some of the German brands like GO and Seiko's GS, then there's a debate on calibre fit finish and dials.

FWIW, H Moser and ALSons and even JLC have always been on my lust list but not my marriage list.

Watches preferences are an enigma.

Agreed. This is where I put practicality into a very non-practical subject of luxury watches.

I’ve heard the same horror stories of Patek owners not seeing their watches for 6 months. Nah. I’ll take Rolex service.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Just heard that Patek-watches have only two years warranty which is strange when comparing to Rolex or Omega—even though in different categories... never experienced Patek, but true:
RSC=Superb!

In the wg Daytona it’s interesting that it’s nit ceramic—like older style Daytona!
But might get some scratches more easily...

its a great Patek, one of my favorites. The WG daytona, i like but not my favorite daytona

The Patek is a unique one for Patek, i like it because it's weird. Love the left side pushers in particular. A daytona is a daytona. Very nice but everyone has seen one

5524g is a very polarizing Patek. When it first came out people thought the pictures were fake because it looked so different than a traditional Patek. I do quite like it though. But the purists don't and it's pricing has suffered as a result. You can find them used in the 30s. They also do a 5524r which is seen as more traditional looking. The 5524g is going to feel quite dainty compared to a WG Daytona. PP could have done a better job with the strap and clasp IMO.

You’re right: the clasp isn’t perfect.

I'm struggling how to figure out how to afford one...haha, jk.

...other than that, I'd go Patek if you already have Rolex in your collection.

Nope, just buy both brands!

That particular Patek is a bit of an oddball but you can get them at a good price generally. Good luck getting any Naut or Aqua at retail.

Yes! I am going back and forth right now about a DD40 and a 5170P. Not similar at all but cannot add both right now.

In your case I would go 5524 preowned. Crazy good deals right now.

I just ordered a 228235 Olive couple of weeks back, anxiously awaiting its arrival! I have had a strong desire for RG lately and think this will scratch that itch until the R shows up.

If that 5524 had the D's sunburst blue dial, like some Nautiluses have, that would be a hard choice indeed.

Its nothing like other pilot watches. It gets compared to a zenith a lot too. Watches are about the details its the only thing that separates a 2k watch from a 10k watch and on and on, not the theme or style necessarily

I looked at PP many times, but they are not my style and do not appeal to me. I appreciate their workmanship and status but I must take a hard pass.

I have found the price to be very fair. 72k but I do not know how often I will wear a strap watch with my young son spitting up all over me daily

Man that is a great piece congrats. I am contemplating rose myself. DD is tough there are too many options.

OP I apologize for hijacking your thread it was not my intention.

not really....PP is kind of out of my price range for on a per watch basis.

I'd only be willing to spend up to MSRP on 5167. I'm on the list and just waiting.

I'm in no rush and know that my AD will come since they've come through on every other single watch that I've wanted.
