Advice on selecting a trusted grey market dealer

I’ve decided to go grey for an Explorer II after more than a year of being on the “list” with my local AD.

Now I’m doing my homework - keeping an eye on the market, shopping around, and researching dealers.

Of course, there are reviews of dealers on Chrono24 and Google Reviews. I’ve called some about a particular watch and chatted with them. I feel like these things give me a sense of whether they are trustworthy or not.

But, any advice on finding a trustworthy dealer? Is it mainly what I’m doing - searching reviews, calling, searching this forum for good/bad experiences? Any questions I should be asking when I talk to them?

Finally, I’ve seen mention of “Trusted Sellers” here. Is there a list of trusted sellers somewhere on this forum that I’m overlooking?

Thanks in advance for your help and advice!

At the top of the classified forum there is a list of "boutiques". Anyone in there is a great place to buy. I've personally used:

JUSTROEXES (Tony Geha of SDWatches)
DavidSW
OCROLEXGUY (Patrick)

Your first time venturing into private sellers? Stick to the well known ones.

I have done flawless transactions with:

Takuya
Briboxer
Sohais
Ponycar350
HorologyHour
Rebes Timepieces
AlexTheGreat

When you stick around TRF long enough you'll get better and better at performing due diligence.

These posts are weekly and get so tiresome. Always the same formula...new user, same scenario over and over. Makes one wonder.

I'm also fiendishly tracking Grey prices. They are headed back up, unfortunately But the Exp2 is now basically at MSRP, good time to buy.

Thanks amh, that’s helpful.

To those who find a post “tiresome”, an option might be not clicking on it and simply moving on to a thread that’s not so exhausting.

Agreed. I’ve never understood why some humans want to control what other people choose to talk about. There’s plenty of topics I am uninterested in that I avoid, easily.

Can't go wrong with DavidSW. Best to not take risks when spending good money. There are a lot of cowboys out there.

get the explorer ii from the rolex CPO program. that's the only way you can be sure the watch is authentic and not stolen.

Fair point. However there is literally a Who's Who section that answers all of your questions. But I understand there are many who operate heavy machinery before reading the instructions first.

Go to moda. Plenty of dealers and very competitive price compare what you see elsewhere

Moda has the best price.

personal experience only, Bob's Watch, is more expensive, but I have complete peace of mind.

Trusted sellers are great to deal with, no worries, but you will pay the highest prices.

Moda is the dumping ground for dealers that have questionable watches to move. Total landmine.

If you want total piece of mind from grey, go DavidSW. High prices like Bobs but better customer service imo.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but do you guys know of any reputable dealer that's NorCal/Bay Area based?

I'm looking to trade my root beer + cash for a Pepsi and would prefer to do it in person.
