Another "Is this too big a watch?" thread (Daytona)

Casually tried on a colleague's Daytona in a conference room right after a meeting. Do you guys think it's too big? I couldn't get a proper mirror shot because there were none nearby.

I can't tell whether it's too big or not--I keep going back and forth. Would appreciate your two cents.

Many folks become concerned when they go from a large watch to a smaller one, or from a small version to one larger, but it is simply a personal visual change.

You have to get used to this visual difference.

Absolutely nobody would think that a Daytona is a too-large watch.

It looks just fine. Maybe check out the ladies wearing Daytonas thread, and you’ll feel better…..

Usually when I see this kind of thread, it's a guy with a 6 1/4" wrist and a 44mm AP Offshore, and everyone says it looks great. I roll my eyes and look for another thread.

But this actually fits you just fine.

I was going to say something similar. In this case, the watch looks great.

Also, it’s always the guys with 6.5” wrists that think a 42mm or 44mm watch looks great on them. And then the guys with the 7.5” wrists weigh in, and say, “that watch is borderline too big on me.” lol

I second this - I am going through this right now with the VC overseas.

It takes time for your eyes to get used to something on the wrist especially if you're used to something different or smaller. I find that dial size contributes to this the most.

That said, the Daytona to me is the one watch that looks good on any wrist no matter the size.

Thanks, all, for your responses. You guys correctly guessed that I am very inexperienced with big watches and have no idea how to process them visually.

Am I right on the limit of what's generally considered acceptable/in good taste? I ask because I'm also curious about Subs (either six-digit or five-digit) but wonder whether they "wear too big" for my wrist based on old threads I dug up here.

A rule of thumb that I often hear is whether the lugs go past your wrist when properly sized. If you still have a couple mm to spare then it fits and up to personal preferences.

The only opinion that matters is yours. If you love it, then it’s all good!

But I think it looks great.

Looks great. And it always looks bigger in pictures. Daytona is rarely big on any wrist. That's part of its beauty. In fact, if you measure it propertly, it's really a 38.5mm watch.

People only complain about the Daytona being too small, not too big.

Looks perfect on you

I mean there are tons of folks who think it’s too small. So I wouldn’t go as far as to call it universal.

This may be the first one where someone is asking if a Daytona is too big.

How big is your wrist? If you have at least a 6 3/4 inch wrist, you can certainly wear a Sub, or a GMT. My wrist is just under 6 1/2 inches, so I prefer to not wear anything over 39 mm. If you have normal guy sized wrists, you can wear almost anything.

But this actually fits you just fine.
I thought it was just me. I usually cringe once at the picture of a Skydweller in a tiny wrist but then double cringe when everyone else says it's fine because the lugs don't overhang, "wear whatever you like even if you have no idea what looks good and have to ask strangers in the internet", or "oh's just camera lens parallax ".

But that Daytona is fine on the OP.
