1960's 6340 pre Daytona

Hi all

I am after some advice on this watch , I have been offered it at what I think is a reasonable price . Treating myself for my birth year watch but a bit lacking in knowledge at this level. I would really appreciate your input folks
Hands replaced and Dial redone , what else is lurking !!!

Im sure that less than 5% of these have dials and hands that havent been touched. The days of finding an unmolested piece in this condition is near impossible anymore without spending a hefty amount for it.

Unfortunately I don't have the required funds to invest in a pristine example guys. Does everything else look ok for an investment of circa £6k???

Many Thanks

Lugs are shot. They would've been thin to begin with, just based on the case design, but now they're toothpicks.

What's especially weird is that it looks as if there's a lug hole only on one side, unless that's just the lighting/photo angle. Or was this reference made with lug holes only on one side? Never seen that before.

Many old models from the 50’s had this. It’s a heritage from the old bubble backs.

On-topic: This is nothing to invest in. If you like it I guess £6k is as little as it can be for something like this. I would spend my money on something else.

Even with a redial, 6 grand seems very cheap. I'd be asking the seller a lot of questions.

Lug holes only on the nine o'clock side were a thing. I have one from the 1950s.

Not a watch that I would be interested in. Too many issues and potential issues to deal with.

This.

A £6k Rolex chronograph should be ringing alarm bells.

It wouldn't give me much joy to own a watch with those condition issues, and if I impulsively bought it because I thought it was a bargain, it would probably never see the light of day, and I'd eventually look to pass it on, which wouldn't be easy.
