I picked up a grail watch yesterday ...

... from a friend in Norfolk. It was a long drive there and back from south Cheshire but it was worth it. A birth year, 1969, Rolex Cosmograph Daytona with quite a bit of service history, operating manual and service box. Here are a few pictures:

Beautiful. 1969 is my birthyear as well... It would definitely highlight my collection if I had it. Congrats.

Very nice. If I had to choose the most awkward drive possible, Cheshire to Norfolk and back would be a serious candidate. 10-hour round trip if you're lucky with traffic. Worth it for this baby, though.

Grail indeed; a beautiful piece.

At nearly four hours each way, you did have a long drive.

It's the furthest I've driven in months given this COVID-19 stuff. Just as well I had the big Lexus LS600h to drive in - it's like a giant leather sofa and super quiet

Yes, around 9 hours of driving. But I caught up with some family too for a while in the morning so that was nice. And very pleased I made the effort. I still can't believe how much better these watches look in the flesh. They take your breath away.

Nice pick up OP!
The great thing about a long drive is getting to stare down at the watch on the way home many times with a nice long honeymoon period.

That is stunning (the watch not the drive!)

I remember doing Hunstanton to Manchester late at night and it was a horrible drive. For this though I’d do it with a huge smile on my face

Congrats on your dream come true!

I wish I could state the same, regarding either the Daytona and... birth year!

Thanks everyone. Much appreciated. It was a big ask to get this but I'm pleased I found a way. These opportunities don't come around every day. Thanks again.
