The watch will be very limited, otherwise, it would sell at a discount after a short while. The whole PC market is very soft right now. Plus, this movement has no seconds function which is a generally desired feature on a sports watch.

Steel probability
Hi all
I am also on the list #1 on my AD. Not heard of any delivery time until now. As a collector I am thinking about how collectible this watch would be in 5 to 10 years. If at all. What is your opinion on that? |

A spain dealer tells me, he has it in his hands
Yesterday, a spanish dealer told me on chrono24 (you can look him up), that he has the watch in his hand and that he asks for 168'000EUR. I asked him to send original Pictures, until now, I did not get any…
I assume he does not have it... Because there are only the internet Pictures on his advertisement... |

Define collectible? Like most new releases it will have heavy demand and being a Nautilus probably a year wait but it will not be Limited so IMO it wont be worth more than you paid in 5-10 years as they will make this in multiple versions since the Nautilus is Patek’s most popular line. I dont think any modern Patek that is a non LE is an investment and even some of the LEs or smaller produced pieces are not worth list price

Collectible
Collectible for me personally means:
- later down the road (3-7years) you regret selling your piece because it is available only on a significant premium or not at all - Combined with the fact that the model is probably discontinued and later on viewed as a starting point into a new era or something significant So you basically do not think that the 5740g matches this criteria. |

Good few of the 175 Anniversary LE's have tanked (5975) and even London Editions have a few dogs----i guess its as simple as supply versus demand. You can have the rarest watch in the world if nobody wants it its still worth zilch. Blue and salmon the current craze and you cant give a J away (5070 included!!)....
Then any new watch gets everyone in a frenzy and this passes as those waiting get excited on the next fad....at the end of the day watches are collectibles but not necessarily investments.....that's also good....the moment a watch goes above a certain value it becomes a safe queen and the enjoyment of wearing it is gone |

5740 to me looks to be a great watch to wear and enjoy. As to the criteria above, there are way too many factors to judge and presumably patek will care for this reference in how they release them but the questions ultimately are these: - How many will patek make and do you trust them to make a reasonable/limited number? - Will the retail price being on the high side stifle demand once the initial batch of collectors have acquired theirs Or will it just be an in demand watch regardless? - Will a 5740 1/a be released the in the 5-7 years? I'm not sure I understand this point, it's a non limited piece. 'Trust' - Why would there be any expectation of PP but to satisfy every single order that has been placed with AD's.

Well most AD's sales pitch (as well as Patek advertising in some instances) include how great an investment X or Y watch will make and/or how limited and difficult it will be to obtain. The question is do you trust Patek to control supply in such a way. If the working assumption is that Patek will satisfy every single order that is placed or requested for this watch (or any watch), then that is fine, but I believe the messaging coming from retailers and the brand itself is contrary to that.

I am pretty sure the 5740 will sell way higher than retail. $100k for a perpetual calendar in solid gold and ultra thin?
I was at my AD yesterday and the sales rep told me that one of their whales bought a 5721-P at retail JUST to get on the list. That's a $260k watch. |

5740 release?
It’s anyone’s guess but I don’t see much evidence to support the idea that it will be in all that low of a production (5270, 5170, 5370, 5402 all current perpetuals are examples of watches that are amazing and beautiful but sell well below retail in the secondary market unfortunately likely due to production numbers). Demand for nautilus is very high so maybe this will buck the trend? 59801/r is maybe the best comparable I suppose but the 5740 has a significantly higher msrp..... 5740 will surely be very strong for next couple of years but my take is if you’re buying for long term investment only, then pass and buy a discontinued reference. Ps: 119k will buy you a nice 3700/1 which are much better positioned to make a true investment if you ask me. You could also almost buy a 5970G or 5131P for that price.... You mean the watch that hasn’t been released yet! Lol... I assume you are being sarcastic. Just curious what makes you think the P wouldn’t follow the same fate of the gold 5270 counterparts? Genuinely curious as this is ultimately more about human psychology than it is about watches! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

At the lowest I would say it wouldn’t drop below $100k preowned |

I still think the 5740/1G is a bit overpriced... I like it, but I am waiting patiently. |

I’m on the fence (while on the waitlist). I’ll let everyone know what I do, as it will inevitably be the wrong decision based on recent moves

Patek clearly took advantage of the popularity and raised the price. Same with 5131P, but it’s business so who can blame them.

I feel your pain, we all have! My 5170p wasn’t bought great, but since it’s a keeper, I’m less concerned.

Interesting on 5131P...the 5130P was circa £40400 and 5130G abkut £27000. The 5131P is £99000 versus £60000 for the R. And you get signifcantly more weight in tbe bracelet. A new P is marginally more exlemsive than a G on preowmed market.

I cannot foresee the 5740 ever being easy to get or going below msrp. Time will tell. I find it interesting they put the top dog dial combo on it from the get go instead of reserving that for platinum.

If I remember correctly resellers are asking more for G on bracelet than the P.
