5167R vs 5205R
Hi again all
Am going to have a look at a 5205R on Saturday perhaps instead of the 5167R for my 50th birthday. My thinking is that the 5205R is more "special", has more complications and yet remains a clear, easy to read face. I like the brown leather strap, and the one I'm going to look at is on a Calatrava clasp. From what I have seen it is more dressy than the 5167R but can still be worn in casual situations and the bezel appears to be less likely to be bashed given the more traditional bezel. Only downsides I can think of, is the lack of lume on the hour markers and hands. Are there people here who own or have owned both references and if so which one gets more wrist time and why ? Investment potential (5167 being more "desirable") is not a consideration. Thanks FlyingClog |

5167R i dont think anymore desirable than 5205R. I dont see many R but lots of G. I think its very dressy and certainly didnt wear with jeans. It is howrver drop dead gorgeous and prices pretty soft. In fairness i owned it for just over a year and broke even. Both completely different watches and 5167R is more under the radar. I think preowned on 5167R is just as weak

fine watches, but neither of these have any investment potential whatsoever... whoever says otherwise is full of it. good luck

I think the 5205r is the best colour for that piece and was sorely tempted but went for the 5167r in the end. I felt that the 5205 wore a bit big and thicker than I wanted from a Patek. The 5167 wears a bit more discreetly, even in rose gold version. Good luck

5167R vs 5205R
5205R for me , by your description of a brown leather strap the dial color is white. They are probably charging you more for the calatrava clasp if that’s something you prefer that’s fine but if not you can save some money there. Personally I think this is a modern AC, and therefore the original pin and buckle work better.
5167R bezel is hard to take care , so for me wouldn’t take too much wrist time. Price retention wise they are about the same , although the Aquanaut has slightly better demand Good luck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Really like both pieces but the RG versions of the 5205 are more on the dressy side. I prefer the 5167r since it is sporty and more versatile.

i think the 5205 is better looking, but the 67R more versatile as other members have commented.

I think the 64R is a better comparison as it has a complication and a pretty clear dial as well, and I'd choose that.

Thanks all for the replies and opinions so far.
Both are just stunning but this is a big purchase for me and can only have (read "afford") one. I love that dial on the 5167 - when it catches the sunlight it's just awesome, simple, uncluttered and easy to read in low light / night conditions too with the beautiful lume. Yet the 5205R with white dial is also easy to read, with day / date functionality, 24 clock and moonphase - your getting a lot of watch for your money. The shape of the case on the 5167 with the thicker rose gold bezel and more sporty design. The more traditional case of the 5205, slightly more subtle and more formal. But either watch can be formal or casual. A difficult (if luxury) choice to have to make ! |

Two Tudor Black Bay ETA red and black, GMT BLNR, Patek Gondolo, Heuer Monaco and Silverstone. Recently sold my wg Submariner (Smurf).
Probably wear the BLNR the most. 90% of the time to be honest. In fact if I had to be a one watch person - the GMT would be the one I would keep with the Black Bay Black or Monaco coming a close second. My original thread asking about the 5167R is https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=622835 My 50th is next week. |

I would get the 5167 from a grey dealer - was hoping to get one whilst I am here in the US and making use of the preferable exchange rate to the EUR, but looking unlikely now. |

I'd go for the 5167R. I think it is more versatile. I am also tend toward simplicity as my eyes age.
The 5205R with black dial is fantastic, but I couldn't read the time, since the RG hands tended to get lost on the dial. The white dial version is really nice, but the windows, while larger than most, were still getting somewhat difficult for me to read. |

5167R vs 5205R
I would wait until you are 100% sure. Don’t buy one only to realize you made the wrong choice. Correcting a mistake is costly. Speaking from experience.
Good luck.

I really wanted a Daytona - but just could not read the time with the skinny hands on a not so contrasting dial. Similarly with some of the Day Date Rolex models. From a practical perspective I am leaning towards the 5167 but just think the 5205 with white dial is beautiful. |

As you have the Gondolo I'd go for the 67R... plus I think you get infraction points if your first two Pateks here are dress models.

To the OP....
From what you describe I would go with 5146R cream dial.... It easy to read time and have a great lume... If 5146R is not your choice then I go with 5167R....

5167R gets my vote. It’s a simple versatile delight. It’s a proper diver yet can be worn with a suit. Be careful though, after I bought mine I then chased the 5167A.

So a quick update on this subject.
I went down to CJ Charles in La Jolla yesterday and spent a great couple of hours drinking coffee and chatting about watches. Great people really. Tried on their 5205R which is a stunning piece with great provenance. Did I leave with it ? No. Firstly I was not in the right mood and was a little rushed and when spending that kind of money - I want to be sure. I’d set myself on the 5167R I’d tried on a few weeks earlier but have all the same concerns as others have posted about scratches. I love the lume, the shape, the dial and whilst it is a simple to read watch, having seen an annual calendar - is it too simple ? . (Sorry for the out of focus picture) I can honestly see myself with either piece so will use the long flight back to Amsterdam today to think it through. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Ha ha ha - that would be nice my pockets are not that deep.
One thing I was thinking was to get to 05R and then if I wasn't sure, trade it for the 67R as that could be a straight swap with no cash in or out. Its a tough decision for me. |

Have you check out 5205g-013 in blue dial? It’s a 2018 Basel world novelties release. I’ve just bought one and couldn’t be happier.
