Patek Model Numbers

Is there any rhyme and reason behind the model number convention on Pateks? I find it very difficult to know which model people are talking about by the number alone.

Any tricks here or just memorization?

I do know the 5711 though..

It takes a little while getting used to the numbering system. Regular mens watches are 5xxx and womens watches are 4xxx or 7xxx. Older watches were 3xxx or 2xxx or 1xxx.

57xx are Nautilus, but 5980/5990 are also Nautilus. 3970/5970/5270 are perpetual calendar chronos. 5070/5170 are chronograph. There are other patterns that Patek follows. It can seem confusing at first, but you do catch on after a while.

You mean like the silly nickname that Rolex had such as Hulk, Batman, Superman, & etc....

Sorry no.... Not in this house...

Just hang out here more often & the reference number soon will become a piece of cake to remember....

Yes it does

5711- nice watch for high price
5712- even nicer watch for even more dollars
5990-not as nice as the prior one but more dollars
5270-high dollars not nautilus
5167-almost a Nautilus but not yet,less price than 5711
5164-same as 5167 with some extra hands for whatever reasons.

The rest are the fancy stuff buy those are too expensive anyhow

Easy ,does it?

Another good way is to get a catalog from a Patek AD and just familiarize yourself with the current production watches.

5711 is so overpriced because of the demand
