Yup and if you ship the 5711 out of state, you save on sales tax. Unless the IRS audits your ADs books, then you will get a sales tax bill in the mail.

I did have one a few years ago, but hardly ever wore it so sold it.

Boy oh boy do I regret that decision :banged:

Hence, why I have asked to be placed on the list.

Interesting but there seems to be a huge disparity between US and EU, in most of EU it is almost, sorry not almost, impossible to get a 5711 in a few months, in the US it seems much easier, even my Swiss AD from which I got my 3 PP told me that he probably wouldn't consider clients wanting either 5711 or 5712 IF they didn't buy another watch as he has a lot of demand from regular customers for these pieces, and that if I got a 5711 very quickly it was because I had gotten a 5167R as well. Can't believe a 5711 sold for 33.5k in Belgium, so there are people buying at these crazy prices. A grey dealer friend from whom I had bought all my Rolexes and a few others and who sold them after for me, told me that Patek is starting to see red at the profits on their watches, we all know that Patek can't stand anyone but them making profits on their watches, so wonder what measures they will take, up production of 5711/12 for more people to get them, or keep the papers for 3 years on those pieces, hard to say, I prefer they keep the papers, as having 2 of the hardest to get SS watches which take a big value should you decide to sell them, is clearly part of the appeal, doesn't mean I would love them less if second hand prices were to fall under retail, but it does add interest to ownership, at least for me...

LOL Karl, I agree totally, value retention, or gain does give serious appeal to some watches

Went to the London Salon today with a friend. We were told they had closed the waiting lists for all Nautilus models except for 5711/1R

Interesting that the 5711 sold for $35K at an auction in HK.

I really like the 5711, but at current pricing it's a no go for me, just too expensive for what it is IMO. The Aquanaut is great deal, relatively and for $30k, you could pick up a nice pre-owned PP annual calendar. You could also, pick up a Royal Oak for a hefty discount to the 5711. Doesn't add up, but if I had money to burn, I'd consider. I'd prefer spending a little more for a nice chocolate dial RG Nautilus.

Pateks do great in resale value, so I doubt we'll see much downward pressure anytime soon. The Daytona C is a different story.

Prices are crazy on the secondary market for the 5711. If Patek keeps production low then it will still go for a premium but not at 30K, IMO.

A Patek AD in Zurich told me last week, that the demand especially for the 5712 is as high as never before. Even for the said watch, waiting lists are closed in Switzerland

For the Daytona C I am sure prices will drop, sure they will be a little more than retail, but not such huge difference. When I see prices for 5711/12, I think how is it possible that there are people willing to pay up to 10 grand more than retail, just nuts, happy as I have both, and no intention to sell, but I would not have paid grey dealer prices for unworn on these 2, maybe a few k more, but 10? Never.

What do you guys think?

First: which retail is your basis?
US retail is already averaging 3k over Swiss retail....

Its all in the demand and supply, something Patek has figured

The price that grey dealers have placed on the 5711A and to a degree the 5712A may slow down. But would they ever reduce the price more inline with the current MRSP?
It would take a number of Patek Philippe price increases - based on 10% each time, before the two prices came nearer and that is without the grey dealers marking time.

Same thing in Paris Salon 2 years ago for ALL SS Nautilus and 5167, but the SS.5164 was readily available.

My basis is 22.5 euros, for 5711, and 29.5 on the 5712, the european retails, suppose the American ones are close to these, the Swiss is lower and what I paid, but even compared to the European or American retail the grey prices are crazy

don't complain you got yours
But even if the 5711/12 are the highest ones on grey, even other SS Nautiluses are almost impossible to get from most AD's or Salons in Europe, except if you are already a serious client...

Sales taxes are state taxes administered through the various state taxing authorities.
