Alan: Welcome to the Forum. You can start by reading this thread from the top. You can do a search on the Air King here (Rolex Watch Reviews), the Vintage section and also the General Discussion. There is a lot of information under some of those posts.

Wow! I'm glad this thread was recently bumped. Some beautiful watches.
My favourite three are the blue lume sticks, the white dial w/ black romans, and anything with the orange arabics. I would have a very hard time deciding. |

Great thread! Personally I might be getting a 14010m with a black dial soon. In general I liked the 14000 style better than the newer ones with the 3-6-9 explorer-style dial, but they are all fantastic. The white dial with the roman numerals looks really sharp too.

Only just discovered this forum whilst I was doing some research for my new Rolex - what a great source of information, and so many like-minded people!
My everyday watch is an Air-King 14000M (picture attached) and I've loved it since I bought it at Geneva airport in March 2007. Simple, elegant, classic. Can't ask for more. That said, I'm getting an urge to purchase something "sportier" - The SubC LN is the likely choice, as will still look good for everyday use. Bit worried about going for something much bigger though - 34mm to 40mm, although reviews suggest it fits the wrist surprisingly well, even with new bigger lugs. My wrist is only 6.5", so Air-King has always been perfect... The Explorer (39mm) seems a good compromise, but bit too similar perhaps to Air-King... Better go and try a few on! Great forum everyone! EDIT: Photo hasn't come out that well, 800x600 resolution I guess - it's sapphire clear in real life! |

air king (2) (800x600).jpg
Love my '97 Air King. Although I haven't warn it for a bit as I'm honeymooning with a GMTIIC. I put it on every day, though, and marvel at how classic and timeless it is. |

To find the Air Kings on the Rolex website, you have to click "Rolex Watches" in the upper left and then click "Oyster Perpetual" under "Special Features".

HI Gaijin,
Great watch. I had the opportunity to buy the same watch but hesitated due to the fact that i thought other Rolex models will be "worth the money", regretted it big time. The Air King will be my next Rolex. Cheers |

First post--hi all.
I believe the Air-King to be one of the classiest pieces made by Rolex. It is simple and understated, yet quite unique and possessing character of its' own. As a Breitling fanatic, I can genuinely appreciate the simplicity and class the Air-King exudes. In the market for a Daytona 16523, but the Air always makes me second guess that (albeit two different watches entirely). Kudos to the brilliant photos. J |

Late to this thread, but seeing that it's still got legs here's my pic.
Bought this Air King for my dad on his 80th, a dozen years ago. After he died, I kept it and now my wife wears it. This size Rolex looks great on a women! http://www.rolexforums.com/attachmen...1&d=1303330638 |

The Air-King is my second Rolex, and I'm very happy with it. It's just so comfortable, and it fly's under the radar compared to some of the flashier models. It's a great combination of class, sophistication, sport, and understated elegance.
Here is my recently acquired Air-King: The Air-King and my Wife's 31mm Date-Just Mid-Size:

This is my first post here. Just wanted to say how nice it is to read nice comments about the Air-King. I have a Date model that I bought new in Jersey, Channel Islands back in 1988. Been everywhere with me ever since. Still have the box and papers. don't have a picture but it looks just like Czechman's.
I love how it looks understated and is tough as old boots. Goes with a dinner jacket and goes in the surf. I was only young and couldn't afford it, but a good mechanical watch is a necessity not a luxury. Cheers James from Australia. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=-31.930196,115.872237 - Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I love the Air-King and the shots here are excellent.
I was at first interested in the Air-King, but it looked a little lost on my wrist and the Explorer right next to it looked just right, so I now own the 36mm Explorer. Never had a bit of regret. Later, I was going through some old watches that I had in a drawer and guess what. The watch that I wore some 14 years ago when I moved to Albuquerque was a 34mm and I never thought it looked small. I guess it was just a matter of perception. So, last year, to get a little closer to the look of the Air-King and still large enough for my wrist and my new sense of perspective, I bought a 36mm DJ. Still no regrets, but I still admire the Air-King.

The blue air king is beautiful. Wish rolex made more blue dials.
