I’m not sure if this may be the least popular incoming in the Patek thread for a while? It’s not only not a sports watch, but it’s a Gondolo - and as someone said to me earlier, who on earth would buy a Gondolo....

Well, maybe the salmon dial will win some of you over?

Congratulations. I think it’s very beautiful.

And bugger what anyone else thinks!

+2. My only non-round watch is a JLC. I may have to upgrade to a Gondolo!

Pleasantly surprised by the early responses! Will post some more photos when home. I think real value for money in this watch (if there is such a thing...).

This has always been one of my favorite dress watches. It’s a classy, romantic watch.

Congrats!

Beautiful watch, congrats!. Patek discontinued both 5124J and G models and it is interesting to see whether they would come up with a new model next month.

Never cared about others’ taste and never will :-)

It may not be complicated; it may not be popular; but it is a beautiful and elegant Patek. The copper dial has a perfect color; curved case adds much comfort; dark Breguet numerals very legible; pays attention to small details - faceted crystal, form movement, thin profile...exactly the kind of watch I like:

One of the best Patek's. I have the 5124j and love it.

Thank you so much all for the kind words.

I have to say I was not expecting such a response - it must just be the people I know, but when I was considering buying this piece (deliberating for far longer than I usually do), everyone I showed photos to told me it was "awful", "the model that Patek can't sell", "not even automatic", "pink", "a rapidly depreciating asset" etc etc ......

It did make me question myself but thankfully I proceeded in the safe knowledge that I love the piece and that it represents a very Patek-looking watch (if you know what I mean) that you normally have to pay an awful lot more money for.

Having lived with it for a few days, I am smitten by it. The Gondolo case curve makes it the most comfortable watch on the wrist that I have experienced so far - it just glides around the wrist with a sleekness that is hard to explain. As for the dial, that pink (or is it salmon?) is captivating. I cannot stop looking at it. The Patek strap is beautiful too, although as it feels a little vulnerable I am considering whether to purchase something like a Jean Rousseau strap and keep the Patek one well rested. (Or would I be able to order a replacement Patek strap like for like, if needs be, even though the watch is long since discontinued?).

Finally, whilst I did not purchase this watch to be an appreciating asset, I suppose one never wants a watch to rapidly depreciate in value: I have a sneaky feeling, however, that with salmon/pink dials all the rage these days, this isn't going to tank any time soon.

For anyone considering spending (by Patek standards) a relatively modest sum on this 5124G-001, I would say .... go for it. It is simply gorgeous.

If my watch fund wasn't currently earmarked for an FPJ, I'd be all over one of these. An absolute classic, super-stylish, and I've never seen one in the wild. Bravo!

A Gondolo model will be be my next acquisition. When I decide to buy then I will make choice. My other two non-popular models are a 3520 R and a two tone Neptune. I decide for me. I don’t
